    Default Detroit Graffiti Question

Id like to begin photo documenting the writers [[grafitti artists) community in the D. Does anyone know some sites where some of the best representations of Graffitti bombs are in the city?

There's lots of recently painted, really well-done, exciting street art in Detroit. Some of my favorites areas are:

    • Grand River, going west from Rosa Parks [[12th Street) to perhaps 14th Street
    • the alley/driveway on the west side of St. Andrew's Hall
    • the area around the Recycling Center by Holden and Lincoln
    • Eastern Market, especially this area: http://detroit.curbed.com/archives/2...es-all-out.php

Try the rail yards. There are usually some incredible works of art on the rail cars. If only that talent and energy could be directed to something contstructive....a shame for that kind of talent to go to waste.

you are late to the party, but have at it if that's what blows up your dress.
will you be documenting all graf in the D or just Detroit writers? taking the project to the next level [[for let's say, a Blurb book) would include making a google map and some narrative/bio on each artist. if you get to know the writers, you will know the spots. where, how will you draw the line betw masters and toys? all inclusive? tags, throwups, burners, pieces? what about street art -- in or out? lots of decisions if you plan to make significant contribution to documentation.

I actually would like to say maybe begin with the Masters, with a focus on the D and maybe put together a map with pins for the locations of those pieces. I also am leaning more towards the bombs since those are the most amazingly complex works ive ever seen someone do with a spray can its insane.

But as of right now I simply would like to start with photographing them because ultimately I want to make this a multimedia project that will include, stills, video, and the web.

I have been documenting this subject for a few years. It's an ongoing project and your post has inspired me to get out and update my portfolio.

The citys on smash but half of what you see nowadays isn't detroit writers. Good place to start is factories and warehouses. Even though you cant see it from the street the inside of these places typically you cant find empty wallspace. I mean... the Packard Plant as recent as 2 years ago we had to walk around it seemed like forever before we could find a spot to get down. Walk the rail from Midtown going west. Think like this. Those who enjoy writing on stuff also like to do so in places where they can post up in the daytime and not worry about getting chased, hassled, or arrested. This is where you will find what you're looking for. The railroads are a good place to start. Viaducts in the neighborhoods. HT yard, RP yard, SW yard. The eastside for streetsides
