Surprised that this wasn't posted yet, good to hear that Riverwalk will be completed soon!

Great news but not the final section. The West segment has a long way to go with many hurdles to overcome.
What is really refreshing about this is that it's pretty close to being completed within the time frame it was pitched on and actually materializing pretty much as planned...if not slightly enhanced. [[I've always kinda thought the West extension was never going to materialize due to all the crap in the way).Surprised that this wasn't posted yet, good to hear that Riverwalk will be completed soon!

Why can't this be rule rather than the exception?
Unless this is an older appropriation, $25 million is not new money. MAP-21 included no pork.
They don't specify how long the Uniroyal portion is going to take to clean up though. The remediation is something I'm not very familiar with, but it seems they have to have the entire site cleaned [[which I believe the initial estimate was 18 months) before any construction can start. Can someone chime in on that aspect?
An unimpeded and longish Riverwalk will definitely attract visitors from all over and as is the case in most cities; from its own suburban reservoir of downtown
admirers. This is supoib.
The conversancy has also received a $29 million federal highway appropriation, which U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, D-Detroit, helped secure and the state's Department of Transportation gave to the river project.
Gotta love Carl Levin. Proof that some good politicians do come out of Detroit.
