Round Building on Detroit River

Okay, forgive my ignorance on this, I'm not a boater. I was down at the recent boat races shooting some video, and I saw this building on the river. The photo isn't that great because of the lack of a stronger zoom on my camera. I shot the picture from Henderson Park. The building is located east of the Detroit Yacht Club.

What is this building and what's it used for?

Someone obviously needs to take one of those Diamond Jack's Detroit River Tours

It's the old water intake crib for the Detroit Waterworks. Nowadays they use the one right near that side on the Belle Isle shore, but the crib provides access to the underground pipes and tunnels for the water system.
