Default Going down in the downturn

Industry insiders like to say that they're seeing more "normal" people, girls "with good minds." Mike of A&M Studios, a producer of X-rated video chats, says: "A couple years ago, we'd have a lot of strippers or people who might be on meth -- a lot of shiftier people." He continues, "Now we're seeing performers who are more educated and used to working on a regular schedule. There's been a shift to a very different class of people." Much as his phrasing gives me chills, it isn't just a cliché that women with limited job opportunities often turn to sex work.
The difference in these dark days is that middle-class advantages, like a solid college education and professional work experience, don't offer the same level of protection that they once did from being pushed to make such a choice. Not to mention, it's easier now to make the decision because the Internet has bulldozed the barrier of entry into the sex industry

Sad commentary, but business is business...

Interesting in that the most famous objectivist once commented that the expansion of this kind of activity follows the oppression and misery central to the philosophy of a mixed economy that progresses towards socialism...Prophetic.

I read recently can't remember where, that a lot of women are turning to prostitution to make ends meet. [[no pun intended).. Always have that to fall back on.. ok I'll stop..

Not to mention the in's and out's, oh, sorry, of this business are particularly inviting.

Actually, this may loosen the prudishness of Americans into accepting sexuality as celebration rather than something dirty to be done in the dark behind closed doors.

Something dirty? Is this how you think everyone feels about sex? How about it's an expression of love between two people? I think that's how most sane people see it.

not prophetic, simple-minded and a touch of false causality. mixed economy, robber-baron [[aka laissez-faire) capitalism or whatever, poverty and lack of opportunity always sees an increase in the sex trade in whatever form it takes

How so? Prostitution is sex as a commodity. Nothing to celebrate there.

Sex is a commodity. Always has been, always will be. Who cares if it's for money? Government has no business regulating sexual activity between consenting adults. No one is asking you to celebrate anything, don't engage in prostitution if you don't like it. But I fail to see how you or anyone else has the right to tell other adults under what circumstances they can have sex.

Canada has wised up. "Escorting" is legal there. It's regulated. It's safe.

Where did I say anything about government or regulation or telling people what to do in my post? I was responding to Lorax's post that more women entering the sex trades was an antidote to prudishness and a celebration of sex. I don't see how it is, if the primary motivator is money. That's just my opinion, go to as many hookers as you want Wolverine, I don't care.

Any person that would turn to such a disgusting and repulsive way of life just to maintain their lifestyle, should have been prostituting all along anyway. These girls couldn't move home to their parents, or in with another relative? Or [[gasp) find a good man to provide an income for them? They are going to have their independence even if it means selling themselves like a piece of meat. Not any definition of success that I know of.

They must have pretty low opinions of themselves.

As the great John Candy once said in a movie and I'd like to think it was his opinion: "If you aren't enough without it, you'll never be enough with it"

Don't you think all women are gold digging hoes anyway? You've said so before.

Oh, I'm not denying having said something to that effect, just questioning the terminology. I don't need "blotto" for my real self to come out.

What is it about "celebration" you don't understand?

Shape-shifting again, I see. Which one of the 16 Sybil's is it today?

You must be great at Twister.

The way I read my post, was how much I love to do it outdoors, and how prudish American are- I didn't include myself in that.

Your fascist right wing crowd really forced the KoolAid down your throat, or perhpaps you were a willing participant.

Of all the posters here, you are the one who really doesn't read the posts you comment on.

Now, here we go, shape-shifting again- which one is it?

Is sex dirty and disgusting to you, or is it just prostitution?

What's this "good man" BS anyway?

Sounds like someone has issues with more than politics.

Who's he talking to? Lorax? Pam? Ccbatson? Hard tell. If only there were something like a quote function or a way to quote someone and have that graphically displayed to eliminate confusion.
