Still, there are a lot of people who seem to grab at straws of dissent against anything Obama does, and to pin everything they don't like anywhere on Obama. Is this because they cannot tolerate any direction from a black man, or is this their stance no matter which Democrat is in the White House? I seem to remember similar hysteria against President Clinton during his time in the White House.

We may [[or may not) appreciate the fact that Geoffrey Fieger called out some Obama critics as racists. I'd feel a whole lot better if more white folks [[speaking as one) would do the same...especially of the conservative persuasion! Until such time, I'll applaud the speaker of truth in whatever shape, size or form they may appear!

i believe there was similar hysteria when Cliinton was in office, although that was probably racist too as Clinton is the self declared first black president...

it's amazing that that not only is Obama the first black president, but he's the first president than has done no wrong, turns water into wine, and is beyond critism, because any questioning of his policy or philosophy is just racist...

i'm glad that people can see beyond this race baiting dribble and will dutifully elect another Democrat mayor for Detroit, be they black OR white, to run this City as they have done for the past 30 years, shining examples of liberal effectiveness

Guess I'm not buying into the title of the thread. Don't care for Obama's economic policies and don't support him because of that. But isn't Feiger singling out [[for lack of a better term) the "birthers"?

Should just let it go but politics has degraded so far that it is IMO name calling & accusations. Neither party is worth a spit. [[that's my mud slinging)

Haha. Good one, antongast. Dave Bing became a democrat only for the sake of being elected. It may be the only good decision on his part since deciding to run.

I believe you're confusing party affiliation with ideology, Goose. One could be a liberal Republican or a conservative Democrat, but in today's world they are few and far between. I, for one -- as a size XXXL liberal -- wish there were more shades of gray in both parties. I think that would lead to more compromise and less gridlock. Also, that's why I wish there was a stronger third party in the country. Where is it written in the Constitution that the USA was to be a two-party democracy?

I must admit for the longest time I thought all this racist rhetoric against Obama was quite false until a trip to florida awhile back and spending some time with some FLA.friends who were solidly republican,,[[ and who cares really).. and ofcourse choir singers at church on sundays... I think they assumed I was also. When the conversation somehow got to Obama several very loudly stated there was no way they wanted any ****** in charge of the country,, I couldnt believe my ears.. The rest nodded.... On the way back to Michigan I was really shocked as I thought about it.. Why Im sure many republicans could care less about the race of the president there is obviously a group who does.. I just hope they are a minority. Its fine to not like the president for political reasons but Id really hoped we are way beyond skin color politics. That goes for people of any color.
