The NAACP and the hate baiting crowd was not a big fan of this guy.
When he made his "Can't we all just get along?"
comment, it was impromptu. Jessie Jackson and Reverend Al weren't very happy with him. He was told to stick to a script they had given to him, one that was written in order to stir up more racial division and hatred.
Rev Al and Jessie Jackson are well known to lunge after any piece of raw meat in order to stir minorities into a frenzy of hatred. Sometimes it's a legit story, other times, they make a mountain out of nothing, just to get some press. After all, if races get along, these two are out of a job.
Mr. King was a resonable man. Not a hatemonger. I watched/heard some interviews with him over the last couple of years. He made some pretty good points.
I also listened to a documentary on NPR about the LA Police Department, how they cleaned up as a result of the Rodney King situation. There have been vast improvements in the Police Departments over there. At least some positive came from a negative.
Rodney was driving a 79 datsun while running from police when arrested
years after the beating.
^^^ Datsun! Now known as Nissan. That could not outrun anything back in the day...
