ND voters voted about 3-1 to keep their property taxes. Michigan couldn't even begin to consider such a thing without the huge oil and gas revenues.

"Although oil and gas revenues are gushing, many officials said it would be a mistake for governments to rely too heavily on such a volatile revenue source, which fluctuates with oil booms and busts. In light of Measure 2, politicians of both parties predict that it is likely that lawmakers next year will be under greater pressure to provide more significant property relief." http://www.thedickinsonpress.com/eve...icle/id/58880/

Schools and some services are needed.
If they eliminated property taxes, they would tax more elsewhere.

Many of the southern states has very low and some even no property taxes.

The State of Tennessee has no property taxes, yet they are still able to operate.

Which Southern states are those? Because around here, everyone complains how *high* the property taxes are. Maybe it's because we don't have a local income tax? I dunno.

If they don't get you one way, they'll get you another. It's kinda difficult to fund things like infrastructure, universities, police, and schools otherwise.

Not so. Every state imposes property taxes, including Tennessee.

TN does not have an income tax, but has an intangibles tax on "unearned" income [[dividends, interest, etc.). TN also has a state sales tax of 7%, plus up to 3% imposed by cities and other local governments.

Sales Tax of 7% is much cheaper than what Michiganders pay in property taxes each year.

This is why so many Michiganders retire to Tennessee and Florida. No property taxes.

Perhaps you misread my post, as you are still wrong.

Every state, yes all 57 of them including Tennessee, imposes property taxes. No exceptions.

Nevada, Texas, Alaska, Florida, SD, Wash and Wyoming have no income taxes at all. Tennessee and NH have an intangibles tax, but no other income tax.

Also, sales taxes in TN are 9-10% in some localities.
