Blight Busters This Weekend

Motor City Blight Busters is tearing down six abandoned homes that they purchased from the city this weekend. I talked to John George and they'll be replacing the blight with an urban farm. I'll be down there helping with the cleanup as I'm sure they'll be recycling some of the materials to help repair homes in the area. Meet at Motor City Java House at 10 AM if you want to help out.

It's on Lahser just north of Grand River. 17336 Lahser Rd Detroit. It's three doors down from the Old Redford Theater.

I sent John and email to confirm that the teardowns are still going on tomorrow, but I don't see any reason to change the plan at this point. I'll post an update when I hear something.

I got a confirmation that they will be demolishing the houses. It's at 9AM, not 10AM this week.

I was in a class with his daughter not long ago and she convinced me to partake in one of these demolitions after working on a couple group projects with her. I was skeptical at first, but I have to be honest, it was a lot of fun. If everyone volunteered 2 Saturdays a year to demo with the Blight Busters, it'd might make a nice little dent in the Bing demo plan. I can dream, can't I?
