Neilr-you are so right! I only have experience with Burton and its been quite disappointing. I stumbled across the Agree images looking for other info, and for the most part only a few of the buildings I have listed I found through the information contained in the Burton Collection.

My favorite DPL experience happened a number of years ago.

I have a great interest in the apartment buildings of NYC and the Dakota Apartment Building is perhaps the most noted in all NYC. At that time [[before the internet), for whatever reason, the most commonly published floor plans of the Dakota were of the 7th floor.

One day while reading I came across a small, faint copy of the plans for the 1st floor. The footnote gave its source as an issue of a professional journal, The Sanitary Engineer, from 1884.

On my next visit to DPL I went to the Science & Technology Dept. and filled out a call slip for all the 1884 issues of The Sanitary Engineer. 15 minutes or so later the page came to my table toting several, dusty bound volumes. Therein I found several wonderful line drawings and the plans of the Dakota's 1st floor. I got, and Xeroxed, what I had come for!

A Charles N. Agree design. Includes an image circa 1925 from the Charles Agree Collection Burton Historical Collection Detroit Public Library. I apologize for the historic image the Burton wanted $15.00 for a scanned image and I did not want to pay $75.00 for the 5 images I wanted. I also want to thank Neilr without his post about Calvert I would have not been able to find this building.

A Wallace Frost design. Looks like there is one architect from Detroit that is not disrespected, you can have this villa for a paltry 22 million.

Which Detroit architects had the most "external" fame? By "external" I mean, outside of SE Michigan. Perhaps Eero or Minoru?

Both Eero and Minoru are probably the most well known. Kahn with all of his work in the USSR is a bit forgotten. SHG/Smithgroup has plenty of nationwide work as well as Harley Ellis Deveraux. We also forget that Frost lived in California for many years.

Found an article in the Canadian "Construction" Magazine from June 1909 entitled "Domestic Architecture in Canada" p 71 that points to Albert Kahn's house on Mack in Detroit as being a highly relevant house design to emulate.
