We recently went to visit friends who just purchased a home on the Grosse Pte. /Detroit boarder near Angel Park. Noticed several homes with "wavy" looking roofs, which I've never seen before. It looks like a gnomes cottage from a children's story book. Anyone know what those roofs are called? I don't recall the material but I would assume, it wouldn't be cheap for repairs and/or replacement.

What you're describing is a Cotswold Cottage style shingle roof which has an appearance of a thatched roof. Here's a nice example on Iroquois in Indian Village.

Yes, that's it. Do you know what material is used? To me, they didn't look like your basic asphalt shingle. Maybe it is. Easier to bend than another material I guess.

Wow, we have a couple of these here in Vancouver and I thought they were just a local phenomenon. This one faced the wrecking ball when it and the neighboring houses were sold and rezoned for redevelopment. Luckily it was saved and turned into a common area for residents.

"Storybook style" is another name for those.

A recent video about our history:
Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac and the Founding of Detroit.

"The History Guy" does a good job of presenting a lot of information in a short time.
