Thanks for all these photos and the associated details on the rich history of architecture in Detroit. It reminds of why I love Detroit so dearly! Even as a young kid playing and walking the streets of my lower east side neighborhood of Jefferson Chalmers I was acutely aware of the rich architectural environment of Arts & Crafts and Bungalow style homes that I was growing up in and around. With every structure lost to decay and neglect it is a sad wound to the soul of Detroit.

We have lost quite a bit and unfortunately all we can do is remember and complain a bit about what we once had. We still have a considerable amount left and its time to put forth an effort to keep what we have!

To me, the Beecher House is a true Detroit jewel. It is one of the only 5 Woodward Avenue mansions still standing.

If you've never been inside, it's well worth a visit. The stairwell window is by Tiffany.

You are so right the alterations terrible! Fortunately the front of the mansion was not altered although there is so much "crap" infront the dwelling is very hard to see from Windmill Pointe Drive.

Don't I wish! One of my favorite homes on LaSalle. Unfortunately Boston-Edison and LaSalle preset challenges to archivests as records are very sketchy. Although the home does have that Stahl feel.
