    Designed by Peter Dederichs. Saint Joachim Roman Catholic Church, southwest corner of East Fort Street and Dubois built 1885-1886 Elmwood Park, Detroit, MI.

    Demolished: 1934
    St. Joachims was an outgrowth from Ste. Anne's parish.
    The church was lost to a fire.

    This is the church my great-grandmother attended until she and my great-grandfather moved to Cleveland temporarily in 1903. I don't think I've ever seen a picture of it, so thank you very much. When they returned to Detroit in 1906 they moved into the St. Charles Borromeo parish, which of course still exists today.

    Normally garages, carriage houses and other ancillary buildings do not get my attention, but a carriage house designed by Marcus R. Burrowes does.

    Built from plans available through The Craftsman Bungalow Company, Seattle, WA. #634-The Areoplane, 3044 Lawrence built in 1923 Linwood-Dexter Neighborhood, Detroit, MI. Includes images from a The Craftsman Bungalow Company catalog, circa 1920.
    The house was designed by Yoho & Merritt of The Craftsman Bungalow Company.
    Many of the original details are missing.

    I love that Japanese style bungalow. Looks like the kind of houses I used to see in the East Bay when I lived in the northern part of Oakland, CA. I've noticed a few similar craftsman houses in Highland Park, but I didn't realize that there were any over in that Linwood-Dexter area [[probably because I never get over that way these days).

    My mother worked here as a teenager and was friends with the Hamilton family for many years. I believe the building has been essentially abandoned since about 2013, after the decline of the Art Center School of Music. Hopefully, with the boom in the surrounding area, someone will do something with it soon.
