Default "Moderate" is the Republicans' new "Liberal"

as the defeat of Dick Lugar in Indiana shows, the republicans have gone so far to the right that they now use the term "moderate" as a derogatory statement

Crazy, right? Eisenhower and Reagan both would be out on their buttinskies after one term at this rate. Bush I also.

How on earth do these tea pockets still exist. I thought that fad was not worth the effort anymore?

    Of course.

Anyone who supports stances such as unions or fair trade is a communist in today's political climate.

I think a lot of this stems from the stated goal of the Republican Party as soon as Obama was elected was...to defeat Obama. Not the betterment of the country, of course. It effectively ruled any compromise out.
So they've spent the past 4 years screaming about socialism [[which is just silly, and virtually meaningless to anyone under 30) and doing super productive stuff like banning gay marriage, allowing motorcycle riders to forego their helmets, and getting the President to show us his birth certificate [[because those issues are important to me, not the fact that I'm underwater with my home).
Then, paradoxically, for all their grassroots racist rage they nominate the most unprincipled, aloof, charlatan candidate they can find.
I look forward to these assholes getting trounced in November. I sincerely wish we had the party of Eisenhower or even Nixon back. Maybe it will be a wake-up call for them come this November. The majority of the country is not hellbent on destroying Obama above all else and they're going to learn that the hard way.

The whole Right/Republican side seems to be collapsing in on itself these days. As annoying as Democrats are, their side is at least unified to some extent. The Republicans are a mess.

I am not into Romney or president Obama. But do you not see that the dems are doing the same thing? The party that's 'in' wants to stay and promotes, endorse certain agendas and policy specifically timed against the other party to retain position. We see that right now with the dems and the repubs.

And as you said the repubs want to win, but Obama has presented enough problems that stand on their own [[he owns it), not just from the force of the repubs working so hard to find things to want him out for.

The 'betterment' of the country is indeed being held hostage, but not just be the repubs. There's alot of things being ignored right now by the Obama camp elite [[oh the horrors I though only the repubs had an elite class), as they greet and meet, travel and dazzle. Like the economy!

It's not the only thing 'collapsing' as we continue this dance of partisan politics!

I have yet to see anyone from the democratic side post things as vilely divisive [[and at least on the surface, violent) as the republicans. I don't remember Dems ever saying their main goal was to make sure Dubya failed, as a number of top republicans have from the get go about Obama
