    Default GM's Dollars for Doers

    For GM Employees

    Through Dollars for Doers, the General Motors Foundation [[the Foundation) will add to your volunteer impact by awarding a $200 donation from the Foundation to an eligible organization for which you have provided 50 or more hours of donated service within the calendar year.
    The donated service may be performed as follows:

    • Fifty hours by an individual employee on a single project for an eligible organization;
    • A series of activities by an individual employee for an eligible organization that totals 50 hours; or
    • A team project involving eligible GM employees with a combined contribution of 50 hours to an eligible organization.

    Seems like their exhaustive list of ineligible entities rules out most of the good volunteer places. Too much fluff and not enough action.

    Ineligible OrganizationsThe following groups are ineligible to receive a donation under the Dollars for Doers Program: religious organizations [[e.g. Salvation Army, churches), operating budgets ofmedical related facilities, capital campaigns, endowment funds, political parties or candidates, and foreign organizations.
    Educational institutions, including public or private elementary, middle or high schools, community colleges, universities and professional schools are also ineligible.

    I don't really think it's fluff; food pantries, girl scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Rotary, etc., would qualify.

    Anyway, if you volunteer for an organization [[that's not religious or political), make sure they know about this. I don't think most GM employees are aware of the programs, so organizations should seek out the GMers among their voluneteer ranks.

    ETA: Belle Isle Conservancy would qualify as well. Based on your handle, I thought you'd like that.

    Hey, don't forget that there a bunch of other companies out there that offer dollar for doer programs. Make sure to check with your employer. You can also search at Double The Donation to find companies with dollar for doer programs. It's made for nonprofits, but individuals can still view some results for free. I know DTE energy offers a program.
