Default New LED lighting atop of Comerica Tower?

I've notice the Comerica Tower now has changing color lighting atop of the building. Is this a trend happening downtown..?, also I see permanent spotlights @ Motor City Casino & Hotel now.

It looks pretty cool though, it's not over-barring. Nice touch to the skyline..

I think they should light-up the slanted exterior wall at the top of the building instead..

The nice thing about the lights is that they aren't visible in the day time. I don't care if they lit all of the buildings downtown with LED lights... a lit building is better than a dark one any day....

Also, it would be nice [[once all windows are installed) to have the MCS light up... but with just spotlights pointing up.

Remember back around 2005 ish when Kwame proposed a plan to add lighting and search lights to all of the downtown buildings. Even had an artist rendering of it

Thanks, now the Kwhapologists will add that to the things he did for the city.

Because nothing says neo-gothic more than purple and green lights flashing at the top

Compared to Europeans, we're rookies when it comes to lighting up buildings...

Actually, I think that, historically, many of the classic Detroit buildings and fountains had colored lighting that would be considered gaudy by today's standards. If you look at postcards of some of the classics, like the Scott Fountain or the Guardian Building you can see the carnival of lights we used to have. In that context, I don't know that the LED lights are so bad.

It wasn't on last night when I was downtown, was this just a one time event, or was it just off last night for part of the evening?

Update... One Detroit Center appears to have their lights on permanently. I saw them orange and blue last Saturday night during the Tigers game, then white since then. They seem to be small spot-light type highlighting the spires on the gothic crown. Looks good, but maybe should have lit the face of the spires as well as the side. Either way, long overdue!

If you mean incandescent spotlights, I rather doubt it. Perhaps they are LED spotlights, but I'm not sure how well LEDs work in a spotlight. I think it is similar to the GM LED lighting because of the variety of lighting schemes they have. I think they've been on every night for at least a week now, and the colors and schemes change constantly.
