Default Twitter Opening Office in M@dison Building

    http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2...wntown-Detroit

Good news. Doesn't sound like many employees at all, but still great to see a big-name company open an office downtown.

It's also really nice to see a company that is not under Gilbert's umbrella invest in the city. He's doing a phenominal job getting his companies downtown, but we need more outside companies to join the party.

Default Twitter to open an office in Detroit in the M@DISON building.

Twitter announced today that it will open an office in Detroit in the m@dison building to coordinate with the advertising and marketing firms located there. Seems like pretty awesome news. For sure the largest player in the technology market to locate to Detroit yet.

Wow this is amazing news! Even though it's a "handful" of workers, the presence of this type of company creates such great credibility for Dan Gilbert's team [[not that they did not have it prior). Gilbert for mayor!!

    Office? Or nest?

Do you have to supply your own blue feathers?

What if you're not a birdbrain?

Now if only we could get Google to consolidate its Birmingham and Ann Arbor offices into one large downtown Detroit office, downtown would be WELL on its way.

Just curious...If google were to combine offices, how many people would that bring downtown? In other words, how many folks work at each office?

I actually would not be surprised if Google moved downtown. Through the efforts of Gilbert and his affiliates, downtown Detroit is becoming the IT and internet hub of the region. Google wants to be close to businesses like Twitter and Detroit Labs and Are You a Human and all of the other tech startups that are downtown. It makes business sense for Google, a company that employs mostly young, twenty or thirtysomethings, to locate in an urban area with a growing tech scene. However, time will tell.

Would it be Twiggle? Or Googlitter?

Oh wait.... you probably didn't mean if the companies combined, did you?

I don't think Google cares about the tech scene or being near tech companies since they don't have "tech" jobs in Michigan. The Ann Arbor and Birmingham offices do advertising sales. Being near Are You a Human won't help them sell more ads to Ford.

Well, Birmingham and Ann Arbor are pretty far from Dearborn...... Birmingham is closer to Auburn Hills, yes. But Downtown is closer to Both GM and Ford HQ.

More Detroit jobs is great. Would also be cool if Microsoft and IBM in Southfield would move to downtown.

Southfield will always be the internet hub of the region due to the internet backbone peering points that are located there. You could see some larger companies move administrative offices downtown but I don't believe Detroit has the optical infrastucture to handle the physical network operations of these large companies. Level3, Cogent, etc. are located in Southfield which is why you'll see Microsoft, IBM and other IT companies located there as well.
