    ....and who came up with it?

    My wife [[a Washington...the other one....native) asked me this morning while we were listening to an NPR story about GM.

    It was coined when FORD made the model T at a price the average man could afford to buy.
    and started selling milloins of them.

    The March 1911 edition of "The Carriage Monthly" mentions Detroit as being the "Motor City", so the name was coined relatively early in the automotive age.
