This was a total bullshit scam.
The fellow was a dupe, a setup.
It was a simple ruse to get the American people to allow those intrusive scanning machines which had already been ordered and manufactured.
Just ask attorney from Taylor Kurt Haskell. He and his wife saw the guy get past security in Amsterdam with a finely-dressed individual who appeared Pakistani.
Here are a few links in case anyone wants to argue these facts.

The Colossal Deceit Known As The Underwear Bomber Case
by Kurt Haskell
With jury selection set to begin in the Underwear Bomber Trial set to begin tomorrow, I've spent the evening reminiscing about Christmas Day 2009 and the 21 months since. The Underwear Bomber attack has fundamentally changed my life. Not in the way most would think, but it has destroyed any faith I've had in the U.S. Government, the media and this country as a whole. To say that I believe the government is corrupt and the media is complicit doesn't fully explain my beliefs. Not only have I come to those conclusions, but I've witnessed that an ordinary person who sees something important can be silenced despite his efforts to spread the truth. Such is the Underwear Bomber case. I can do nothing but laugh at the TSA's new policy of "If you see something say something." That is exactly what I did, and not only did the U.S. Government not want to hear what I had to say, but it actively lied about it, attempted to get me to change my story, and hid, by withholding [[secret government) evidence or putting a protective order on the evidence and nearly everything that would support my eyewitness account.
Where are we now? We now have The Underwear Bomber [[Umar) representing himself with the help of standby attorney Chambers. Attorney Chambers has indicated to me that if he were Umar's attorney, that the defense would be entrapment and that I would be a key witness. Of course, such a defense would expose the U.S. Government's involvement in the plot. It is much too convenient to have Umar represent himself and be in charge of what the defense will be, what evidence is presented, what witnesses are called and what questions each witness is asked. A trial with Umar representing himself will leave the relevant facts of this case unknown for generations. I can't help but think that Umar fired his attorneys for a reason other than he is a crazy terrorist. It is much too convenient that the entity that staged the event, also controls the evidence, what information is leaked to the media, who the prosecutors are, and the prison where Umar has sbeen staying at for the last 21 months. Let's not overlook the fact that the U.S. Government has admitted to waterboarding and torturing terrorists. Do you see the pieces of the puzzle forming a clear picture yet?
Make no mistake that Umar did in fact attempt to detonate a device [[although it was a defective device) on Flight 253. He is not innocent. It remains to be discovered whether my belief that Umar is complicit with the "theatre" going on before our eyes came about before or after the event of Christmas Day 2009. It really is not important except that you must understand that he is now complicit in covering up the true story of Christmas Day 2009. There is no other explanation as to why Umar is representing himself and rejecting the entrapment defense [[Which I have discovered he will do).
For those that are still skeptical of my claims, please realize that I do not make my claims without a great deal of thought and research. My firm belief is that Umar was escorted around security and given an intentionally defective bomb by a U.S. intelligence agent. The bomb was never intended to detonate, but merely intended to create a "simulated terrorist attack" or a "false flag attack" if you will. In December of 2009, the U.S. Government hadn't seen a terrorist attack in 8 years, It was getting more and more difficult to spend hundreds of billions a year on terrorism and to continue to fight two fraudulent wars based on terrorism. Those making their livings off of the war on terror didn't want to lose their cash cow. Enter Umar the Underwear Bomber. A second benefit of a failed bomb being found in Umar's underwear, was to enable body scanning machines to be placed in every airport. How convenient for Michael Chertoff , a former head of the DHS, to have ties to the body scanning companies. I doubt that this was any coincidence. Once again, billions of dollars would flow from the U.S. Government for body scanning machines that were needed to protect us.
Enough is enough. The news never spoke the truth about this matter, ever. <sigh>
Sincerely,
John

Make no mistake that Umar did in fact attempt to detonate a device [[although it was a defective device) on Flight 253. He is not innocent.
He attempted to detonate the device literally right over my house in SCS.... no sympathy here....
Can he get a slightly annoying jolt of electricity every time I have to pass through an x-ray machine? And the shoe bomber the same each time I have to take off my shoes?
I'd gladly opt to fly on planes where the passengers weren't subjected to the humiliation and civil right violations. It'll be nearly impossible to take over an aircraft like that again now that Americans are on guard and I'm content to take the risk if means feeling like a free-citizen again.
Heck, it don't bother me none. I don't feel a bit humiliated going through security. And I know enough to play by their rules in advance. No belt buckle, ez slip on/slip off shoes, yada yada yada. Although I agree, if some yahoo tried to take over a plane I was on, I'd be the first in line to say it's me or you, Jack; go for your shit.

I do feel bad for the young man's family. Its pretty apparent that the young man was not raised to be a radical and unlike other young people who may have held radical beliefs when they were young he went way over the line and did something he can never take back. Because of that act the family will most likely never see him again.
There have been discussions on this board about the death penalty and I have always maintain that a sentence to supermax is worst than a death sentence. Some folks call the place a "clean version of hell". It is designed for sensory deprivation on a daily basis.
http://markosun.wordpress.com/2011/0...ew-of-inmates/
This link gives a typical layout of the cell.
Here is a quote from Sharon Shalev who wrote a book about solitary confinement.
"Prisoners in a typical supermax will spend their days confined alone in a windowless seven-square-foot cell which contains only a concrete slab and a thin mattress for a bed, a small table and stool made of tamperproof materials, and a metal combo unit of a wash basin and an unscreened toilet, located at the cell front within full sight of prison guards.
Prisoners are confined to their cells for 22 and a half to 24 hours a day. They will only leave it for an hour’s solitary exercise in a barren concrete yard or for a 15-minute shower on alternate days. Technology and design allow for these two activities to take place with a flick of a switch and without direct staff contact. Food, medication, post and any other provisions will be delivered to them through a hatch in their cell door, with little communication or time-wasting.
The regime of relentless solitary confinement and tight prisoner control in a typical supermax is made possible by prison architects. Without their professional knowledge and careful calculation and assessment of every design detail, it would not have been possible to hold hundreds of prisoners in complete isolation from each other within a single, relatively small, building for prolonged periods.
And it is this extreme functionality, calculated to design out human contact and enable maximum prisoner isolation and control, that makes supermax prisons so chilling. As one senior supermax officer put it, “Do we have an obligation to take care of them? Yes. But do I have an obligation to provide him touching, feeling contact with another human being? I would say no. He has earned his way to [supermax] and he’s earned just the opposite. He’s earned the need for me to keep him apart from other people.”

THE most important part of Haskell's commentary is this:

I'm not looking for sympathy for the so-called Underwear Dude. I am looking for the whole truth.
He is not guilty of what he was charged, he was coerced and connived.
If he is guilty of anything, it is being stupid and merely attempting something evil.
He was given a bomb that wouldn't work, then actually video-recorded while he tried to use it. They KNEW he was no danger to anyone but himself.
This was a RUSE to get those scanners into the airports, and to refresh in the psyches of Americans the fear instilled during the False Flag Operation on 9/11. Plus, parts of the Patriot Act were set to expire.
So, this was a controlled display. He was a dupe. Nothing more. He is the best terrorist they could entice into doing something evil enough for them to enforce their network over unsuspecting civilians.
The bad guys are the ones in our Homeland Security...hate to say it. Once again, I'll employ the terminology you so hate to read...they are the ones turning our country into the new Nazi state. I've got an article for you to read, if you want 25 reasons why I believe that.
Sincerely,
John

I don't mean to thread-jack, but this guy, Michel Foucault, explains a lot about the evolution of the prison system in the Western world.

John if what you are saying is true then at some level al Qaeda would have to be co-opted by the US. goverment in order for this to happen.
Now I believe the kid was a dupe, just like Richard Reid [[ who by the way is so messed up in supermax he is talking about starving himself to death. He already tried it once. His father thinks that this time he will succeed).
I just think the bombmakers like in the Reid case didn't know what they were doing [[thank goodness). I think X-mas day held some significance to al Qaeda and represented a chance for them to rub it into America. The kid meant nothing to them. They probably knew the chance of him pulling it off was small, if he did it fine, if not no great loss, none of their key operatives were involved.
First,
Al Qaeda is a fiction designed and created by the Central Intelligence Agency. There is clear evidence that, over time, the same group gathered against the Soviets in Afghanistan was turned into an enemy of the state, so this war against a concept could have an ever-elusive face. Always paid by the CIA, no matter the stance.
The co-opting was at the core of it all, it could more precisely be called 'covert operating'.
You need to look prior to and including the Project for the New American Century to more clearly gain the background, but the whole "Islam against the west" is a false-fight created over a forty year period of time...and dovetails with a certain Mr. Pike's desires for three major world wars with periodic skirmishes to keep the world divided...and conquered. He was a very high-degree Mason whose plans for the twentieth century went pretty much the way he wished.
To get to the direct Nazi connection, pre-CIA infiltration and ultimate control, you have to go back to Operation Paperclip. Ever since? Just look closely at those Bushes...heh...and they say Jeb is going to make a move during the Republicrite convention...
Cheers!
John

It is common knowledge that Michael Chertoff had an interest in a company which made those airport body scanners, btw. He was at the head of Homeland Security when the Underwear Dupe was the front-man for the scam.
Cheers
I agree. Life in prison is much worse than the death penalty. People don't seem to grasp that. If I was a criminal sentenced to life in prison, I'd beg for the death penalty.
He needs a firework in his pants once a month.
Coincidentally, The Carlyle Group is poised to make billions off these scan-tron devices. George "Papa" Bush sits on the board, think there might be a connection between the government handing out the contracts?THE most important part of Haskell's commentary is this:

BTW, I feel no sympathy for Mr. Umar, I hope his Nads hurt every day until he dies.
Somehow I get the sense that Gannon is one of those people who has never met a conspiracy theory he didnt like.
And btw Gannon, you're wrong about him not being guilty of the crime with which he was charged. There a common law school criminal law hypo that says if i hand you a gun that i know is not loaded but you think is loaded, and you intentionally point it at another human being and pull the trigger, that's attempted muder. It doesnt matter that you werent actually able to carry out the crime you intended. What matters is that you had the requisite intent [[intent to kill) and commited an act in furtherace of that goal [[ pointing the gun and pulling the trigger when you thought it was loaded)
The same reasoning would apply here if the bomb wasnt actually capable of exploding,
Last edited by artds; February-18-12 at 07:52 AM.
If you hand anyone any form of weapon, you are enticing and enabling them to choose to do wrong, so the ultimate culpability is upon the original bearer of the gun...or in this case the bomb. Since this dupe was either unable or unwilling to use in his defense the whole story, and Attorney Kurt Haskell's and his wife's testimony in his trial...nor even view the security footage from the Dutch airport...every responsibility over this lands in the laps of those who PROFITED from it. Chertoff. Bush. [[insert additional Neo-Conservative war-monger co-conspirator's names here...)
I investigate all data. If that sounds like I entertain all theories...so be it. Anyone who wants to dismiss it wholescale using the common-derogatory of conspiracy theory is part of the problem. Those who willingly ignore the truth are among the worst of human beings and have no purpose on the Earth. Those who justify bad behavior and the rail-roading of dim-witted individuals...in order to pursue an overall agenda which seeks to enslave a nation and reverse the freedoms guaranteed by the founding documents...should just kill themselves.
I hope I am clear enough in these comments.
Sincerely,
John

John.....meet me on the grassy knoll....I have information..........
Sorry, but this logic is utter garbage. Whom is the "original" bearer of the gun, in that case? The manufacturer? The seller?
Enticing and enabling are not carrying out an action. Unless the person carrying out the action is coerced [[which is different than enticement) or cannot distinguish right from wrong, they are ultimately liable for their own actions.
Believing otherwise is assuming that we are incapable of controlling our own actions, which is a great argument for more governmental control over your life. If you want to take that logical tack, that's great, but you had better be OK with the ramifications.
Person A: Original bearer of weapon.
Person B: User of weapon
Person A is easily replaced, so if Person B is wishing to do harm with a weapon, Person A can be removed from the scenario and it still is reasonably likely that weapon will be obtained and harm will be done.
Remove Person B, and with Person B goes the intent to do harm, and we are back to Person A with a weapon, a weapon that has no will and cannot act.
Person A may reside in a moral & ethical space in which I would not wish to reside, but it is not reasonable to place any final responsibility, or culpability, on Person A.
Person A may deserve some blame, but holding Person A responsible for Person B's actions is-- as I believe JBMcB implies-- setting a precedent that should be entirely resisted by free-thinking individuals who are opposed to any sort of hypothetical Big Brother running their lives.
Funny how they all used to be just called suicide bombers. Now its shoe bomber and underwear bomber. Whats next, the hat bomber or man purse bomber?
Ravine... maybe it's just as simple as some other Nigerian instigator "double dog dared" him to set his crotch on fire...
I wonder which state will have the dubious honor of housing this guy's sorry butt for decades to come. Colorado has quite a few top killers.

Why isn't this cruel and unusual punishment? This sort of isolation drives people crazy. Of course, with some of these inmates, that may be a short drive.
