Something fishy is going on in South America.

Two years ago all things went wrong. the Netherlands lost the final against Spain. And in all fairness, that was deserved. I have to be honest about that. But back in 1978 the finals of the world championship was played in the dictatorship of Argentina.

The Netherlands was playing the final against host nation Agentina. The Dutch lost in overtime with 3-1. But maybe now it turns out that Argentina did not reach that final on their own merits, alledgedly.

Right now their's an trial going on against former Peruvian army leader adnd President Francisco Morales Bermúdez in which a former Peruvian senator declared under oath that Agentina's last group match against Peru was fixed. Senator Ledesma declared that Bermúdez and argentine Junta leader Jorge Videla made a deal. In exchange for a win, Videla would take care of 13 Peruvian dissidents [[among them Ledesma) who didn't hide the fact that they were against Bermúdez. It was of great prestige that Videla's country won the world championship.

Because of this match arch rivals Brazil were denied a place in the final. Another thing was strange. Normally all the last games in the groups have to be played at the same time but in 1978 Brazil already played their final match so Argentina knew what needed to be done to reach the final; scoring more that four goals difference.

Argentina had to score with four goals difference to end as group leaders in their poule. They won 6-0. Persistent rumors say that Peru was paid enormous ammounts of grain and Dollars.

Back in 1998 former Peruvian goal keeper Ramon Quiroga already said that he did not do his very best to prevent goals. Even Argentina's striker Leopoldo Luque declared that with what he knows today that he is nog proud of the champoinship they won, although he said thet they didn't know what was going on behind the scenes. "We were just playing football".

Meanwhile the FIFA didn't want to talk about speculations in the media.

I think this story is going to have a tail.
