So here's my question. Why did the city leadership resist letting go Cobo's control? And do we Detroiters really feel as if one of our "city jewels" was taken from us?
I see it the other way. I feel like that City Jewel is finally shining again.

Good for Cobo. However, I feel differently about Cobo than I do, say, the water and sewerage system.
I'm not surprised there was so much getting lost in back door deals connected with this place it wasn't even funny. The authority has to operate in a much more accountable way than it did prior to it being established.
It seems like the authority *GASP* knows what it's doing. I'm wondering though, what, if any, types of new convention business the remod will pull in from competing venues like Chicago. Most of the added value to the COBO remod is not in the expansion space it would seem. Not many shows need 900,000sq ft. It seems like most of the return will be from the updated features and services that newer venues offer.
