Imagine if you were driving behind the truck when money starting blowing out of it!

I wouldn't be surprised if a few Cops that were supposed to pick up the cash slipped a hundo or two in their pocket.

I also love the quote from the people looking in trees and high grass "this is the stimulus package right here."

This happened a long time ago and I think it was on I-75 as well. I gotta ask, how can they design their handling of the bills to allow this? The time before they lost a lot of money, it was like a big box came out of the truck hit the pavement and cash went everywhere, carried by high winds. People were scrambling to pick it up. The authorities were asking people to return it to avoid prosecution. Most of it was not returned if I remember correctly. One man brought back like 230k, again if I remember it correctly. There were lots of stories and urban speak surrounding that one. Anyone else remember that?

Made famous by the woman who ratted out the harvesters....

    "The Ballad of Donna Lewis"
    by the Layabouts
Paintings by Layabouts vocalist and artist Stephen Goodfellow

We found a canvas sack lyin' on a railway track
It fell out of an armored car and landed at our feet
We looked left and right, not another soul in sight
We threw the sack into the car and took off down the street

Four hundred thousand bucks will buy a lot of cars and trucks
we tossed the money in the air and laughed as it came down
The kids squealed with delight, grandma nearly died of fright
As we danced crazy through the night and spread the wealth around

But Donna soon became concerned, she said "That money wasn't earned!"
Besides which the coppers might be breathing down our necks
She'd been raised to sit up straight, and say her prayers before she ate
To speak when she was spoken to and stay away from sex

Well how were we to know right then, she'd later call her uncle Ben
Sad to say her uncle was the local deputy
And bein' such an upright man, he took Donna by the hand
"To make it to the Promised Land your duty's plain to see."

Well I am just an average joe, I listen to the radio
I learn a bit from magazines and watchin' the TV
I don't believe in mortal sin, but when I heard she'd turned us in
I knew that she'd condemned us to the penitentiary

And so the lesson I have learned is money that you haven't earned
Will get you into trouble if you take it recklessly
so if you think you'll find a sack that you might wanna not give back
You better be more careful with the company you keep

    Lyrics by Alan Franklin 1984

[BTW, a band that had its beginnings in the basement of my Highland Park House.]

Robert Ficano was probably the first one at the site, grabbing as many handfulls as possible. I mean, with budget cuts and all...

I was pretty amazed by the traffic jam and I was wondering why people were running through the traffic when I was driving on the other side of the freeway yesterday morning. I also saw dozens of people rummaging through the bushes on the side of the freeway. But I guess the thought of finding a buck out weighs common sense sometimes!

Anyone see council members, pension board members or DPS honchos out there filling their pockets?
It just comes naturally to them.

The best kind of stimulus package!

Better to get it in cash, right away.

Prosecution for something like this is stupid.

If the idiots handling the cash are that dumb to lose it, it's like setting your old fridge out by the curb. It may have value to someone who takes it, but don't prosecute the person who took it.
