When I visit I think I'll be getting the Triple Triple Omelet from Hudson Cafe, free refills on the coffee too? - Another reason I love America. You never get that in the UK or Ireland.

If you are looking for good food, big portions, efficient service and reasonable prices, I can recommend Louie's Deli on Mack at the northern edge of Eastern Market.

Breakfast Buffet at Bistro 555 in the Greektown Hotel [[not the casino buffet) recently went up from 10 to 12 bucks but still a good deal. Great made-to-order omelettes, fresh fruit, coffee and juice included.

Anybody mention HyGrade yet? It opens at 7:30 a.m. Fridays, and it has those waitresses who call you hon', and a traditional American breakfast.

It's harder to park downtown, but I often eat at a greasy spoon called the Ham Shoppe on Monroe.

Avalon Breads opens pretty early, and there's much more there than breads, like scones, brioches, panini, sandwiches, coffees, etc.

Byblos cafe opens at 9 a.m. on Fridays and is pretty good, if you stick close to the classics.

Some 24-hour places are pretty cool, like Duly's coney island.

Not sure when they open, but any Eastern Market place seems a good bet: Cutter's, Butcher's, Farmer's, Russell's, etc.

There's also Astro Coffee on Michigan Avenue.

If you're ever looking for Sunday brunch, Woodbridge has a pretty awesome one with bottomless mimosas.
