    Default Belle Isle Aquarium

So great to see the renovation in the building and fish being put back into the Belle Isle Aquarium. Big hand of applause for the folks of Detroit who walk the walk!

Great video to watch on the subject:

Wish I could make it tomorrow. How come citizens make this happen but our city can't.

It is a long, involved sad story of financial woe, shortsightedness and a series of unfortunate sequences, not necessarily in Detroit's best interest - A 'Detroit in Miniature', if you like.

Hidden away and little visited, there is an in-depth time-line on the struggle to save the Aquarium that finishes in 2010, if you are interested:

There are dark sides, but what never fails to shine through is the iron-will of supporters who have refused to let go.

What a great happening for the area and Belle Isle, I have been a nominal contributer because I have so many great momories of it! When I mentioned to friends and familly where to go to support it and that I already had.... most just laughed! Just goes to show.... "stay the course"

Here is a short essay about the history of the Belle Isle Aquarium. May it shine in its
    original glory quite soon.

What a beautiful building. I was there only a couple of times, in the 1980's. So nice that people are not giving up!

As a son of Detroit, maybe Willard Romney could chip in a few bucks. HAHAHAHAHA

Talked to my brother who was calling me from the Aquarium around 11am. He was pretty stoked about what was on display and the crowds of people visiting the Aquarium!

Too many people to make it inside when I came by today, but hopefully the long lines translate into some donations for the aquarium, as well as other Belle Isle attractions.

It took us an hour and twenty minutes to get in- it was so worth it. The building and the fish looked fantastic.

Bravo to the volunteers who made it all possible- you guys are amazing!

the child and i waited 1.25 hours to get in. great time in line talking to others. well worth the wait. my daughter commented that we didnt even wait in line that long at Disney World but it was ok because it was fun. We got in line about 2:45 and when we came thru I asked how many people had been through that day..lady told me we were 3092! there were several hundred more behind us. great event. Hope thier donation box was filled !
