Highland Park Public Schools get Emergency Financial Manager

Highland Park Public Schools will become the second district in the state of Michigan to fall under the control of an emergency manager.


Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder announced in a release Friday afternoon that he considered the district to be in a state of financial emergency and that Jack Martin, a former chief operating officer of the U.S. Department of Education, would be named emergency manager.

I won't hold my breath, but I hope this person can help push the district into better performance, and not just slash jobs.. since it's not as widespread as DPS, I wonder how long it would realistically take for the system to stay under the EFM...

If the E.M. takes over Highland Park Public Schools. Snyder, the Nerd will address the 12,000 [[ Mostly black) residents that their kids will not be going to school after February 1st 2012. They would have to find an alternative school and fast.

I'll give the district 6 months max before it disappears. This must be the "creative destruction" that gets all the private equity guys excited.
