Looking for a photo that might include 354 Grand River back in the 1890's. Henry Wesley had a meat market at that address. I've verified this in the Detroit Directory, would love to find photo...any help? thanks.

I don't know about a picture, but that address is approximately 2734 Grand River today, which would place it on the northeast side of the street on the block now bounded by Fifth and the Lodge Service Drive. Between the present-day Motor City Casino and the fabulous Viking Motel. A vacant gas station is currently the sole building on that block.
Have you looked through the 157 old photos in the Detroit Gallery at Shorpy.com?
You can also try geographically searching through the Library of Congress's on-line collection of "Detroit Publishing Co." photographs, which is the primary source for the photos that are in Shorpy's Detroit Gallery.
Here is a "circa 1890" shot from the UM's site of photos from the DPL's Burton Historical Collection [[http://quod.lib.umich.edu/d/dpa1ic?page=index). It is of the scene a frustrating block or so away from the store you mention, at Grand River and Sixth St. [[where the Lodge Fwy. crosses Grand River today). It is, however, an interesting shot in that it shows an unpaved Grand River, a horse car in use, a number of people in period dress, early electric wires, one of the city's "moonlight" arc lighting towers in the foreground, and smack dab in the middle of the street a dog doing what dogs have always done.
The picture won't post for some reason, but here's a link a larger size versions of the photo:

thank you for your addtional information and the links...how sad that a vacant gas station is all that is there now. I didn't realize that address had been renumbered...good to know for future research.
Here's a web page with links to some very useful Detroit Street Renumbering reference material.
