Default Parking NAIAS Cobo Event... how'd it go?

I had to be there early for business regarding an event set-up. Parking was not too bad at that hour. Along with a few lucky others, I found a free spot on a close street absent of NO Parking signs, meters, or fire hydrants -- a rarity downtown - but they do exist for the early bird.

I noted the underground COBO parking was closed and as I walked down to the foot Jefferson to go to the COBO entrance I was all but MOWED down by traffic turning right on Washington Blvd and Jefferson and I had the GREEN right away as a pedestrian!

I had to literally wave my arms about to remind drivers walking is still legal on a green and right turning cars yield to 'crossing' pedestrians!! I saw people walking from far distances behind me... They endured the same car turning mania as I did...

What was your parking, walking experience?

I parked at Greektown Casino [[free) and took the People Mover over to Cobo...no problems at all.

It's all about the People Mover this week for me. There are plenty of other places to park other than Cobo. And it drops you off within yards of the front door of Cobo.

Why not make a day of it in parking somewhere less crowded, grab a light bite, hop aboard the PM, see the cars and at the end of the day, hop back aboard easily to your car? To me this is the easiest, most convenient solution.

I got there late and tried to park on the roof. The attendent said it was full,
So i got all pissy and left.

Nah, I took the tunnel bus. Walking was fine.

Parked at Compuware. Took PM to Cobo then walked to Greektown for dinner. Walked back to the deck, had no problems at all. Plenty of open spots and it only cost $5.

If you try to park in Cobo roof parking, beware: A few years ago, I was stopped at the bottom of the ramp by a man who asked for $10 for parking before I went up the ramp.. Not knowing any better, I paid him. Then, when I got up to the top, there were three actual parking attendants taking money again for parking. Needless to say, I paid twice and learned my lesson that day.

I parked at the Hudson's underground lot Saturday and People Movered it to Cobo. Afterwards I walked to the Detroiter Bar for dinner and then walked back to my car. People Mover was way too busy. Cost me $8 to park.

I hadn't been to the auto show in quite a few years. It was pretty fantastic.
