    Default Copper Theives - Warrning Graphic

    Downtown Dallas...copper thieves were trying to pull a 13,200 volt live wire out of a conduit

    Note the bolt cutter and the copper wire on the ground.

    Wow! Copper thieves who like to steal wiring should think! Electrocution is not the real danger. An Arc Flash caused by a short circuit caused their death. The heat from this is tremendous and only last for a brief period but causes all in the vicinity to burst into flames.

    The following video shows the unleashed fury of an arc flash.

    That picture is horrible but informative. When I was working on Tireman near Livernois, there was some poor young man who fried himself trying to steal copper from a transformer. The transformer was enclosed in a cyclone fenced box and was clearly marked with some sign that said Danger 20,000 volts or some huge number like that. This incident also shows the danger of being illiterate.
