Default Moving to Detroit from Albany Ny. Questions....

My fiance and I have been doing the long distance relationship for a year and looks like I'm the one that has to move. She currently goes to med school at wayne st with once year left. She lives and goes to school in the midtown area.

I was wondering....Are there any websites of jobs just in the midtown/downtown detroit area? If not...what great companies are in the area for a 2008 polly sci/business admin grad?

    Thanks Alot in advance.

    Hi Bjones,

I'm an upstate New York man myself, lived in Albany as a small child then the 'rents bought up the Northway a few miles. Shen grad. You've come to the right place for help; best of luck.

    Remember:

    Drive a stick-shift.
Leave nothing visible in the car.
    No shopping bags or anything.
Set any alarms to not be set off by loud noises.

It CAN be helpful, but the best way to ensure nobody breaks your window and tries punching your ignition is to drive a stick. Most hoodlums don't know how to drive one ... and if they try, you'll probably find your ride stalled out in an intersection within five blocks...

I agree. Drove various manual transmissions around the D for years, never even bothered to lock 'em. Worked great. Most cars are stolen to be stripped, and in the City it's usually kids doing the boosting, and they have no more idea how to operate a manual transmission than they would a rotary telephone.

Honestly, it's a luxury, but if you can afford secured parking...totally worth it.

Incidentally if the significant other has business in the midtown area, that's an awesome place to live right now. Ten years ago I wouldn't have said that, but midtown is just humming these days.

I was, it's just that Bham hasn't gotten on this thread yet. Did that guy decide never to set foot in michigan after reading the posts about how he would die of shock by seeing a non-Stockholm grade city?

Hahaha. no i havent. I went to MSU and spent alot of time in Detroit with fiancee and friends I met at school. Detroit is like Brooklyn w/o the white people, commerce and public transit. lol. Other than that I feel equally safe.

On a bright note, there is less snow in Motown than Albany.
