    Default DPD Reorganization.....again.

This is making the rounds on varous blogs among DPD retirees. Don't know the source or the accuracy, but for what it's worth, read on.

    Patrol Re-Org

All districts and precincts will operate on a 24/7 schedule, however access for the public will cease on Plt III [[4PM) and resume on Plt II [[8AM)

From 4pm to 8am, Pcts/Districts will be manned by a Supervisor and a clerk from the shift whose duties will be station security and desk duties respectively. Any reports will be referred to TCRU or online reporting via Cop Logic

Everybody on patrol with the exception of:

    ADMINISTRATION STAFF:
[[1) Commander & Insp: Lt or Sgt & PO
[[2) Timekeeping, Vehicle Maintenance Officer, Bldg Maintenance Officer & Property Officer are Disbanded
[[3) Timekeeping, Vehicle Maintenance & Property will be centralized – most currently assigned will be re-assigned to Patrol.
[[4) Building Maintenance will be responsibility of precinct command

Cell Block - status quo as far as I know.....
    IOU ReOrg
    ________________________________________

All of the district/precinct investigative units are centralized and operate as a unified command consisting of:
[[1) Executive Staff of an Insp, 1 Lt & 1 Sgt.
    [[2) Admin Staff including 2 Lts / DOJ Compliance, 2 Swing Lts & 6 civilians working 6am-2pm / 10pm-6am
[[3) 150 members assigned to 4 Squads consisting of 1 Lt & 33 sworn members each working 8am-4pm, 11am-7pm with a rotating squad working the hours of 10pm-6am every 28 days.

I also hear that they plan to demote all Commanders to Inspectors [[that will be the City's 10% pay cut) and get rid of the rank with the anticipation that most if not all will probably retire saving even more $..

The last group of Inspectors promoted might also be demoted

So, what about the overtime for everybody driving to and from the Shop and Property lockup?

So you won't be able to go to the police station between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m.?

This seems to be the new strategy. I have several friends that are within a year of receiving full benefits for 30 years and they're both being put through the wringer, as they see it, so they'll quit early. They say they've been going through this for about 3 years after stellar, dedicated careers with their companies.

A police station the public can't go into when most people are off work. Is this some radical new idea?

Not really. It's pretty common in smaller communities --- which Detroit has become.
