Default Detroit Trolleybus Map - My Way

I decided to make this map of my vision of what a trolleybus system in Detroit would look like. Here it is:

    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=208332450253786108113.0004b1cf6129fb f43c644

Does this layout work for you? What lines would you take to/from work if you lived near any one of those lines? Feel free to comment or critique here.

Whoa, how much money would you have budgeted for this project? Looks very thorough, but I'm not sure it could ever be done at that extent. I'd just like to see the main arteries covered, radiating out from downtown, and a few cross-town lines.

Ooh. Buses that look like trolleys!

My first impression is that you are within 2 miles of both the Cherry Hill Village and Wixom Village Center... you should extend at least one line to each of them as suburban TOD pockets.

By your map, I can get from my Midtown home to my parents' place in Flat Rock and to my sister's place in Royal Oak--which is to say, I like it. I don't care if they are buses that look like horse-and-buggies if they run on time. Get yourself a kickstarter page, my friend.

They could connect with Don Barden's proposed amusement casino world...

I like it. I'd like it more if the Mound line went to RPTC, and if the Woodward and Mound line went through to Campus Martius instead of leaving Woodward at Grand Circus.

I would get on 10 Mile, go to Mound, go to Woodward, then I would have to walk from Grand Circus to my office building near Campus Martius.

Made changes to reflect those. The Grosse Ile line has also been modified so it enters and exits Grosse Ile on the Wayne County Bridge instead of the toll bridge. [[How many city bus routes use toll bridges anyway? I would think 0, even counting trolleybuses.)

Try comparing my map to a current DDOT and/or SMART map.

People in Detroit don't like waiting in traffic and judging by that map there would be ALOT of Chevrolet Caprice's with 22" rims waiting for trolley buses to pass.

Transit Windsor uses a tolled facilty!
Comparing it to SMART is easy. The 100's are down river, the 200's are west side.....

Much better! Having those lines go through Campus Martius would save a lot of people some walking time and also give the people at RPTC a quick way to get to Campus Martius [[assuming that there would be a frequent schedule for Woodward lines, and I don't see why there wouldn't be).

    Thanks for sharing this!

You sound like you might be a fellow SimCity fan...

My complements to you for your forward-thinking urban planning efforts. However, as a former Grosse Ile resident, I can tell you that a public transit system will never cross the bridge onto "The Island". They love their seclusion from the rest of the metro area and will never allow easy access to the riff-raff.

Good layout for a bus system but I don't think trolly buses are the best bet. Maybe for the inner-city but not an expansive region like metro Detroit.

Resources would be better spent on regional rail and innercity light rail or subway.

A long-term goal should be to have the spokes rail to be below or above grade.
