    Default GM Commercial

Anyone see this ad durning the finals tonight?

What do people think of it?

I don't understand all the sport references in it. I guess it doesn't matter what is in the commercial when government money is funding it...

I think they are hoping people don't forget about them while they are in bankruptcy.

At the 16 second mark, the narrator says, "General Motors needs to start over," as an image of a crowded subway is shown ...

I saw it from afar in a crowded bar, but I was kinda confused about why it kept switching back and forth between scenes of downtown Detroit and scenes from NYC.

It's like my actual dreams! [[I currently live in the Bronx & Detroit is home, so my dreams end up being a mix of the two.)

I think its a very positive ad. The purpose is to let the world know that its not over, its just starting fresh.

You guys are very observant. I never pay attention to commercials, but the sports & NYC scenes do seem out of place. The commercial is probably made by a NYC advertising agency, and many people get excited over sports. That would be my guess.

I believe the point was to show quintesential american images e.g. sports, subway, etc. along with shots of general motors toughness and staying power e.g. the fist, workers, whatever.

Personally I think its a great commercial although I agree there is some disconnect between all images and the subject matter. Anyway, the only chapter 'm worried about is "chapter 1"

I really like it. I imagine they include images outside of Detroit to sell it to folks outside of Michigan as an American consumer based thing rather than a Detroit manufacturer based thing being called an American thing. People like to buy products that satisfy their needs. Its a basic principle of capitalist theories. Like I said, I really like it.

    Cooper, do you think that line & subway footage references THIS?;

I think the close-up of the one-legged person jogging symbolizes a Butt-Kicking Contrst

I think it symbolizes the underdog thats going to make it happen despite the odds. Its like a mini Rocky story.

The television spots were done by LA-based Deutcsch, which has GM's Saab account, and the print ads are being done by the Birmingham office of McCann-Erickson, which has GM's corporate account and global work for Chevy and other brands.

After seeing that commercial, General Motors MUST turn their company around in order to compete in the global automobile market. GM was too fat, too big and too weak to fight against the Japanese, Europeans automakers and socialist unions. I'm glad that they finally got rid of those brands that were not worth selling and downsize to 4 brands of Cadillacs, Buicks, GMC's and Pontiac's. GM should have turn around 30 years ago, but those executives and CEO's just being greedy and waiting until OPEC lower those fuel prices. Since the U.S. and Canadian governments ans socialist unions have control of GM. They would determinine to make the corporation make fuel efficient cars, trucks and minivan's instead of those gas guzzlers. The new GM would some Detroit, suburbs and world they made of.

They're keeping Chevrolet. Pontiac will be getting the axe.

Some of the NYC shots were shots of the GM Building.

It's sort of a count-the-metaphors ad and all the visuals signify other things.
