the auction ended a long time ago and i believe all of them were sold at the time. you might have some luck searching memorabilia stores or checking online listings [[craigslist, ebay, etc.).

Thanks reddog. That was what I was really asking with the original post. I shall stand by for advice.

carman, I heard directly from the DEGC's Waymon Gillebeaux last August that all remaining seats in the Stadium are to be destroyed so as to protect the value of the seats sold at the auction.

This does not explain, however, why the demolition company last summer, and to a lesser extent since, has gingerly removed several orange seats from the upper deck on the first base side.

They ought to have a "Scrapper Day" at Tiger Stadium. Come in and take all you want - no fighting please! It would save on destruction costs, and provide some extra cash to scrappers.

The seats still in the park will be recycled or thrown in a landfill. Detroit: We have such an abundance of wealth, we just throw it away!

When the seats went on sale [[and everything else they could get out of the stadium was put on auction) a year and a half ago, the company running the auction made it very clear that no more would be avaliable after the ones they were selling were gone. They had exclusive rights to sell them. Of course there is the secondary market [[i.e. e-bay, local sports stores, etc.). Any left behind [[many of which were broken) would be demolished with the stadium.

They sold off odds and ends, including items that didn't get bid on, after the auction ended. I picked up a seat back and an unused blue brick. The seat backs were $20 and are now $25 from the museum store. These would be from the seats that had to be sacrificed in between pairs that were sold [[so all pairs had arm rests on both ends).

When we were there, the main person from the auction company "let the cat out of the bag" that they were taking a section of seats out to Grand Rapids to be installed in Fifth Third Ballpark. 5/3 is the home of the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Tigers single A minor league team so it sounded reasonable. So far it hasn't happened that I know of so I don't know if he was just blowing smoke. If he wasn't truthful about that, maybe they still have some squirreled away to sell.

After driving by there last weekend it would be hard for me to belive that all of those remaning seats seats will be sent to the dump.Funny thing when the green seats left Tiger Stadium, I myself was too young to realize but I remember seeing the building next door to the ball park selling seats. This was back in 79 or so.This ain't the tread for me to vent so I won't.

I wonder if I can get one of the support I-beams and install it in my TV room.
It would be just like Tiger Stadium watching the game with a pole smack in front of all the good plays.

Maybe you should get an outdoor television and place it two blocks away so you can pretend you're watching a game at Comerica Park.

Sounds like you should be in love with Comerica park, no obstructed views at all. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to get a Ferris Wheel ride while you're there.

Kraig....is there a way to get orange seats/blue brick from the stadium before its all gone?

There are plans to harvest seats from the stands starting next week. No word on when/how they will be available, but they have had reclamation specialists going through what's left this week. Yes, they are wearing hard hats.

I was given the number of Fred Rottach who was a Manager with the Planning Department, but, it turns out that all he is doing is referring everyone to the Detroit Historical Society. Of course, they're only selling seatbacks as was pointed out by GOL in an earlier post.

The funniest thing happened to me today, I found an old VHS tape that I thought were old episodes of "Rockford Files", I popped it in the VCR to see if it was or maybe a tape that my sister made of my niece when she was a baby, boy was I surprised to see the last Tigers game at Tiger Stadium. Actually I started to tape it from the 5th inning and taped all the events afterwards on channel 50. It was great to see the game and "The Corner" looking so good.

When they had old players coming onto the field Mark "The Bird" Fidrych was first and he took some dirt from the pitchers mound and put it in a bag. It is so sad to know that he is no longer with us, the same as George Kell, who also suited up.

I tell you when the stadium is completely gone it is going to be so sad not to see it there coming downtown. They don't do the same things at Comerica Park like they used to do at Tiger Stadium. I remember the Fireman's Field Day. I loved going to see that. I wish that they could do something like that today, give the kids something to remember.

Kirk Gibson said that he remembered coming for bat day and getting the bat and taking it home and practicing with it. I still have mine, in fact it's right near mine computer.

They even showed when the Lions played there and won 3 championships. So many memories and Detroit just loves to destroy the buildings, but they can't destroy our memories.

Oh, one person they were talking to in the stands, Darren McCarty, he came to see the last game.

Detroit should take a page from other cities and try to salvage the past, not tear them down. We need to show our kids were we came from, pretty soon if Detroit keeps tearing down all these old properties were just going to be one big parking lot for the suburbs or Windsor.
