Default Deliberate Firing on Detroit Police on Patrol ?

I really hope that untraceable shots fired on arriving patrol officers isn't going to be the new way that the bad guys keep police officers from their neighborhoods. I recently read here that there are some neighborhoods that the police just don't respond to. is this why?

Detroit Officer Shot in Back on Thursday Night
"The officer, who was in the passenger seat, and her partner were in the Ferry Park and Linwood streets area responding to reports of shots fired when someone shot at them, Stephens said.
One bullet pierced the squad car and hit the officer in her back, Stephens said. The officer's protective vest stopped the bullet, Stephens said.": http://detnews.com/article/20111028/...#ixzz1c5bOQsXZ

And on Wednesday morning, Fox News reported that, near Grand River and MLK this occurred:

"While the officers were investigating and a lieutenant was on scene, there was shots fired in the area," Jaafer told us.
There were more than ten shots. Sources said officers couldn't pinpoint exactly where the bullets were coming from or if the shooters were actually aiming at them.
Officers also don't know if the suspects were the ones that were firing the shots, but they are certainly facing a lot of questions.
Two of the men who were taken into custody may be connected to home invasions in the Woodbridge area.

I pray that this isn't a new trend in the City of Detroit. The two-legged animals that would do such a thing need to be eradicated by any means possible. My opinion.

I swear it's time for the troops to move in. Sorry, but the police are outmanned by a long ways. So depressing.

Thur night's shooting may not have been targeting cops.. it was an unmarked car. Not that shooting at a regular car driving down the road is any better??

Unfortunately, I been hearing about cops being fired upon while on patrols more and more.

It is a sad and disturbing trend in Detroit.

This is crazy! Linwood and Ferry has been out cold for some time and this is a new low. I don't even drive thru there... it is unlikely that anyone will be identified, ever.

I stopped crossing over to that side of Linwood when a friends son was car jacked and murdered on Ferry Park. Gun fires is a regular thing and there is very little lighting along Linwood, 14th or 12 street. Ferry Park started getting bad back in the late 80's.

I used to sit on the roof of my apartment building in Hamtramick on Friday nights drinkin' beer with friends. We'd laugh every time we heard a gunshot and then guess as to what part of the city it came from. That was in the 80's.

When I went back to that neighborhood this week, after being away for about six months...my friend Buddy said the cops had been 'all over' the hood in that time. He likened it to an occupation, but didn't complain. They've cleaned up some things.

They know the neighborhood, too. If some young men hang out at the corner gas station too often, they are brought in for loitering and other 'minor' charges...and told that they'd better get their lives on a better path. Drug sales around these gas stations is a known fact of the 'hood...but the police are harassing pawns without getting the knights and rooks, and not getting anywhere NEAR the royalty running the show.

So it will go on...and when some at the bottom misbehave...this will happen.

It is all a part of the failed war on drugs. That is as simple as it gets. The moment cannabis is made fully legal and totall deregulated, all of this will simply go away. Hell, even Chicago is decriminalizing low amounts of cannabis.

We'd rather be surprised that low-level hotheads take their frustrations out on those who hassle them. Must make a few of you feel superior...keep hiding behind stupid laws. You're probably the same folk who think making bullets $10,000 each will solve the problem.

    Sincerely,
    John

So crack, heroin, meth and cocaine will all disappear off the streets if cannabis is legal? I don't believe that would happen...the dealers will still be out there, they will be recruiting 8, 9, 10, and 11 year olds to sell it and the problem will still be here.

I'm not one that's too trusting of cops at all, but, it seems to me that trying to keep the peace in Detroit is equivalent of sticking your finger in a dike to stop the rush of water.

Over a decade a go I read an article about how EMS units were frequently the target of gun shots. There were and I'm sure still are areas that EMS will not go into without a police escort.

Oh, you're right. Then LEGALIZE IT ALL.

The War on Drugs has always been a failure.

Because it was always a war upon inner-city black youth anyways. Read up on your history of Richard Milhouse Nixon...

Legalize it all. Make prohibition end, send the gangs packing for something else to make their money from. When alcohol prohibition ended...the violence did, too. We can do that again.

Did alcohol become the scourge of the population that the Prohibitionists expect it to be?! Drugs will not, either.

This is a silly-ass endless argument designed to keep people divided over bullshit. Those who defend the status quo of laws created to modify human behavior will never understand that laws cannot do that.

People still speed, faster than ever.

    People still kill...

And here, in this particular instance, some idiots still shoot at police patrols.

Nah, all personal-use prohibitions must end. Teach people how to moderate their behavior. Don't make it that elusive attraction that so many cannot seem to forget...especially cannabis, which is an integral part of our nervous system performance.

Why else would there be a neuro-receptor specifically for its most active ingredient?! LOL...

    Cheers,
    John

Random firing on the Po Po's [[Pigs) is nothing new. Happened almost nightly back in the late 60's early 70's. Difference between then and today is the 5-0s had more fire power and ammunition to give back plus a lot more personal to respond.
