Default DIA Exhibit called "Detroit Revealed"

I read in the paper today that the DIA has an exhibit running through April called "Detroit Revealed". I was just curious to if anyone has dropped in to see this. It may be something worth taking a look at.

Went on Friday. Had a lot of strong feelings, which is what art is supposed to do. All of it extremely high quality from an artistic standpoint. However if I never see a picture of another abandoned Detroit structure in my life I will be no worse off. To me my Detroit has little to do with abandonment. It is where I live, work, and play. Where my friends reside. Where I live in a neighborhood that others should be so lucky to live in. It annoys me that all these people superficially see is the abandonment. Detroit isn't a blank slate. We still live, love, and die here.
The Latino SW Detroit part of the exhibit was great. Great portraits and pictures of homes. A good reminder that Detroiters and immigrants of all sorts are people.

I have not seen the exhibit. Eight photographers - 4 locals and 4 out-of-towners.
I have seen past works of almost all and some are in this show. Many of the photographers are connected with academia and their works are already in the DIA collection. An exclusive/inclusive group. "Detroit Revealed"? By who? Four locals representing 4 narrow points of view and four others who've swept in and skimmed the obvious surfaces of the sensationalistic. Where are the Bill Schwabs and the George Waldmans in this exhibit. The Bruce Harkness' and the Bill Sanders' and the Joe Crachiolas - to mention a few. I suspect [[again, I've not seen it yet) this show has no guts, just make-up. "Detroit Concealed". I'm posting this video of the Detroit I know and relate to. Maybe you see your life here too.

Went opening day, smaller that I expected. Great prints. I was more wondering how much I have to spend on a camera to blow up a 4'X5' print of that quality.

    Bruce Griffin is the shit.

Loved the sheep print from Mary Catherine Fergeson [[sp) as well as the warehouse pic of the rainwater falling down on the dudes shelter. Also loved the archived pics of the old days.

I say go check it out.

Beautiful video, Brazzman! It definitely shows the heart of the D and is a welcome respite from the sea of RP we're all drowning in...

A picture from the exhibit and information about seeing it were featured in today's Wall Street Journal.

As a contrast, I present some "ruin porn" from an abandoned Soviet base in East Germany that is open for tours....
