Default What will Matty Mouroun Detroit Legecy be ?

I know this "gentleman" has be covered on this site before , but I thought I would start this thread off "fair and balance". After listening to WDET yesterday it seems he got his way with the bridge :-[[ even after an independent group studied and found a second bridge would benefit Detroit, Michigan and the region !
After all of his negative ads and his HEAVY lobbying , it seems at the moment he got his way. He is willing to hold back , Detroit , Michigan , and the entire region just to get his way, even after , Windsor , Ont , and Canada said they they would [[a) front the US their half the money [[b) NEVER ALLOW another bridge near his current bridge , [[c) His horrible track record with the train depot, the state of Michigan over the I 75, with the people of southwest Detroit .
How could this guy EVER say he is a TRUE Detroiter and had Detroit interest in mind? While listening to WDET I was so disappointed to know that someone would be so greedy as to hold back an entire region for his on selfish wants .
I believe this is another huge opportunity lost , just because of some rich millionaire greed . It is sad to know he wouldn't put his selfish greedy needs aside and stand up for the city that has help make him a millionaire several times over .
    Any thoughts ?

Don't view it as a right or a wrong. View it from its true standpoint, which is some interested parties with loads of money and competing interest just went head up and Moroun just won a battle in a war that's not over yet. Look for the Corrigan Group and AECOM to regroup as quickly as they can and start pushing for this deal more directly at this point. And Canada isn't done by a longshot on this. A ton of money has been spent on this project and there are more than a few politicians that will be on the hotseat over this whole debacle. Their political lives are on the line to get this project approved. So don't be surprised when a bunch of checks from canadian businesses start making their way to Lansing. Which is just what State Reps and Senators have been pushing for.

There was no way that this fight was going to end yesterday when the politicians know that the two competing sides still have plenty of loot to spread around.

Matty will forever be remembered by me as a lying, cheating, "businessman" that tries to put his own interests above the interests of all others at the expense of the public's interests.

Point well taken , but if your are Mr Mouroun and you you've been told there is NO way you'd be allow to build a second span directly next to your current bridge and you purposely sabotage the chances of the entire region from going forward just out of spite .Using Rev. Malik Shabazz as his front man, how sleazy , what's in it for mr shabazz ? will he crawl back under the rock he came from under ?, I guess it's politics as usual .Sad that if you have enough money you can buy people and get your way , even if its totally clear this is something that could help thousands of people and a entire region . Are there is no repercussions for sending out completely false information , this guys can't even be fined for outright lying ? , so anyone with money can just blatantly dishonest and we all have to suffer ? and he just gets away with it ? Once again an example of the rich simply getting their way and the 99% just have to take it because "that's just the way it is " ? .. I may have to join the folks out at occupy Detroit ! :-)

I think this better illustrates a breakdown of our society and our economy.

A billionare spreads his money to the media, the party of billionare interests [[Republicans) and the charlatan hatemongers on the other side just to be safe, and prevents two sovereign states from constructing infrastructure. I don't believe we really have a democracy. I don't even really have a market economy [[poor consumers like us would in theory actually have some purchasing power). This country has devolved into a total plutocracy. It really isn't a good place to live anymore. No one has any opportunity except the very wealthy. They even bought out our government. If that makes me a socialist or a Wall-Street occupier, then so be it.

Aside from the Gateway Project and the Bridge, lets not forget all he did for the
neighborhood around St. Anne's. I know that was before most of you could read or write, but, it happened. Buy a home, pay decent money, start the neighborhood talking about getting some quick $$ and moving on, and then let the house rot, bring down the property values, evacuate the area for his own needs for cheap.
The man has always been a philanthropist. Right?

He certainly knows how to buy his way into some decent P.R, and only destroys the lives of poor people with no PR budget. He's a true American capitalist...
