    Default Detroitland by Richard Bak

I highly recommend Richard Bak's new book Detroitland? It's a great read for anyone interested in Detroit history.

He wrote a good bio on Ty Cobb, I have got to get that. He used to post here, wonder where he went?

My bet is that he stopped posting due the extraordinary negativity that infected this board for a while. I've heard it from too many people...they stopped coming here because of the jerks.

Even the owner of Astro Coffee admitted that he and his wife wouldn't have even CONSIDERED moving to Detroit without this forum...but he doesn't even come here any longer. I told him about the initial thread on their business, and he said he'd have been devastated to have that pile-on after all their hard work and investment.

Thanks for the recommendation, Ed. I look forward to reading Richard's work. I always enoyed encountering him here.

    Cheers,
    John

Detroitland is awesome. He sort of takes the stories you maybe once heard traced out for you but fills them in with lots of solid reporting and facts. I expect a lot of them will be given as gifts this Christmas...
