    Default Street parking map?

The extended parking hours have completely disfigured the way that I use the CBD, and it's now far less likely for me to go down for any evening activity, in large part due to the one-hour limit on many meters.

One hour is not enough time to see a movie, go to the gym, dine at a restaurant, or... much of anything, really. Is there a map showing the maximum duration at street meters in the city?

Kwame Kenyatta feels the same way you do:

When the Boll Family YMCA first opened the nearby meters were all set for a 1 hour limit. Shortly thereafter, the time was adjusted to 2 hours.

Having just received a meter violation during the rain out at the Jazz Fest, the standard $20 ticket is cut in half if you mail it within 14 days. I mailed them a $10 check, it cleared three days later.

City Council President Charles Pugh has a solution for stepped-up enforcement at parking meters with short time limits: Park wherever you want. I saw him getting out of his city car Monday night on Library, just south of John R, behind the YMCA. He parked illegally, about five feet from the stop sign, and walked into the Y with a gym bag. His car carries those special license plates, so I assume he didn't get a ticket. .

Your best bet would be to contact these guys:

They have a map for structures. For longer term parking they would rather you to be off of the street. This frees up space for those making deliveries, bikes, buses, and pedestrians.

I think meeting for a dinner that slightly exceeds one hour is an acceptable use for street parking and is not "long-term". Rather than getting used to paying for a garage, costing generally five or ten times as much, it's more likely that I'll just take my business to the ring of neighborhoods just outside the CBD unless I have time to walk in. I'm not trying to park an RV overnight or something.

Also, from my experience about half of the meters that accept credit cards are not working properly. In fact, the meters on the South bound side of Broadway [[between Grand River and Gratiot), have the credit card readers but they have not worked since March. This is particularly frustrating for someone like me that does not carry change. As of yesterday the meters on Grand River [[next to the YMCA) were not working [[coin or credit).

He always does this. He parked outside of my work in a fire lane for several hours - and you are correct - being a black crown vic with an X on the plate means you don't get tickets.

He also has a full entourage. I assume they're all paid with our tax dollars, to follow him around and make him feel like a real celebrity.

OT, but he needs to go. He's such a joke and a loser.

The council needs to no longer have cars or drivers. I also think that about a quarter of their salary should be contingent on their taking the bus forcing them to improve the transit system and interact with their bosses.

You could always park at one of the casinos and take the People Mover. I've also never had trouble in the tunnel where I think all the police park their private cars. I tend to bike downtown though so I'm usually in a hurry when I park means shorter parking durations.
