    Default Weddings Downtown

My fiancee and I are considering a wedding Downtown next year around the end of September/early October. I was just wondering if anyone has attending any weddings downtown or has had there's down there before. Just looking for reviews. We are looking at places like The Gem, Fillmore, Rooster Tail and even the Hotel's like Athenium, West, etc.

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

    It's not exactly downtown.

But my sister got married at McGregor Hall at Wayne State in fall 09.

Consider the chapel in the Masonic...it's gorgeous. It's on the third or fourth floor.

The Detroit Historical Museum puts on a great wedding and reception.

Small theatre seats maybe up to 200 for ceremony and the "city' in the basement is a great setting for the reception.

    Default Weddings Downtown

Westin Book Cadillac is very nice.

The Detroit Athletic Club [[www.thedac.com) is gorgeous, but you need to reserve through a member. If you are interested, PM me and I'll get it hooked up.

And supposedly the new Cobo Hall is going to be THE downtown destination once it's done.

    Good Luck!

When we put on the Preservation Wayne Downtown Theatre Tours at the end of August, the visitors were impressed with a really nice display of a wedding setup in the auditorium of the Fillmore. The terraced seating was where the guests tables and chairs were setup. Since both the Fillmore and Colony Club are owned by Forbes, the same silver chairs and tables used in the link that Bailey supplied, were used in the Fillmore. The dance floor remaind as a dance floor, the stage curtain was closed, and the orchestra pit was raised 1 foot to allow for an elevated dais for the bridal table. Quite impressive!

... although for an intimate setting I find it hard to top the Louis XV style ballroom at the Colony Club.

In 1986 I stood up for a friends wedding in the Buhl Building. Back then the Savoyyard Club on the 26th [[top) floor of the Buhl Building was open as a private club... but since the bride was the niece of the building owner... it was decked out for a spectacular wedding with downtown and riverfront views that were spectacular. Unfortunately the club is closed, and the space not currently used by the public.

I went to a reception at the Athenium a few years back and thought it was great. I might have thought it was great because I was able to stumble up to my room. Good time and very nice.

Can't beat the view or ambience at the Detroit Yacht Club. I also second the Player's Club, that where we had our reception.

I said Detroit Yacht Club, not DAC. DYC is on Belle Isle, with a nice view of the water, downtown, the Ambassador Bridge, and sunsets.

You have to be a member of the church for at least a year before they will let you get married at St. Mary's.

Look's like the Colony Club is all booked up for the dates we are looking for next year.
