Default Sheila Jackson running for Detroit Council

Sheila Jackson is running for Council and is announcing her run at a press conference on Tuesday, 6:00 PM at Ashland Community Park at Ashland and Jefferson. [[a lovely park she helped make a reality). Please come out to support her.

I'll leave it to her, to list all her credentials for the position. My husband and I have logged thousands of volunteer hours with various east area community groups and Sheila has always been there too, both as a paid non profit organization employee and as a volunteer. She has the ability to make good positive things happen.

I have a vested interest in her running, since I really wish to see a more equal representation on the council, of the city at large. She is bright, articulate and a go getter. She knows how to organize and get things done.

A big plus in my book is that I know she is sane!

I was embarassed as a feminist to say I wouldn't vote for another woman for council after all the stupid antics we've seen. Now that Sheila is running, I have changed my mind. She will get our vote.

Please take a look at her credentials and consider her as worthy of your vote.

I realize she hasn't formally anounced yet, but ask her to establish a campaign website once she does so we can see what you're talking about.

    Why is this in Non-Detroit?

It never hurts to have a common name like that when running for political office.
I believe there is/was a U.S. Congresswoman by that name, though I think it's Sheila Jackson Lee.

Volunteering as a "community organizer"? Let's guess her party affiliation, shall we?

I am puzzled myself as to why this is listed in non Detroit. I swear I put it under connections. It disapeared and then showed up here. I thought maybe the monitors of the board didn't approve of personal endorsements.

CC you leave me a little blank trying to belittle community activism.

I, myself, am involved in many local organizations. I have worked for improved business districts, park improvements, neighborhood improvements, environmental justice, participant in several community garden, school improvements, youth mentor for children at risk, Sunday school teacher, contributor to local newsletters to name a few. I am a founding member of a self funding non profit dedicated to preservation of our local history and am a published author. I am a self employed entreprenure. I am also the kind of neighbor and friend everyone would wish for. Trying to label people is amazingly stupid.

As an informed voter, I am naturally attracted to civic minded citizens running for office who show they care about the community we live in by being involved. I couldn't care less if they were Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Socialists. I don't care if they are Christians, Jews, Muslims or Agnostics. I just want people who provide results.

So really, what is your point?

I don't ask people their political affliations. I judge by deeds.
