I'm glad to see Joe Muer's reopening but feel something will be lost since it's not in the old location. And it's great to see the London Chop House being dusted off and reopened after 20 years.

What I find more exciting is the opening of Seva in Midtown!!!

Does anyone know if Larco's is still open? Apparently, they moved to Troy on Big Beaver, but I haven't heard whether or not they are still open, I have a feeling that they're closed for good.

The location was turned into the Big Beaver Tavern a few years back. Their website says they still have a location in Bloomfield Hills or West Bloomfield.

I saw the web site as well - Larco's had some great Italian food back in the day.

Joe Muer's opened this week. Anyone been? Does is it live up to the old standards?

Here's the secret - Big Beaver Tavern is still Larco's dressed down as a sports bar. They kept the kitchen and staff. You can get a filet you'd pay $40 for at Morton's for $20 there, and it's every bit as good. They also home-make their own bolognese sauce for their spaghetti. Outstanding restaurant for the price.

I thought I read the Murphy Telegraph Building...right across from the Penobscot. Then again, I work in 211 West Fort and haven't seen any work going on in there.

At the old location. Apparently when they closed, they pretty much just locked the door and left most of the inside intact.

How cool is it that older restaurants are starting to return to the area? One in it's original location too!

    More positive signs about Downtown

Very pricey - check out the menu at http://joemuerseafood.com/.

Since the original was pricey I'd assume the new incarnation is going to be as well, but I don't see prices on their menus.

My bad - they changed the website since last I checked it and deleted the prices. Suffice it to say the prices I saw were on a par with some of the casino restaurants.

I thought it was standard practice to omit prices from menus in the very priciest restaurants. Isn't that the convention everywhere?

It's sort of a snobby way of suggesting that if you have to ask the price then you can't afford to eat here.

Perhaps online, but I think all restaurants have prices on the menus. The "snobbiest" thing I've seen is the prices listed without the decimal.

So is LCH open? I'm thinking about going downtown today, as I have the afternoon off...

McDonald's could do that with their dollar menu, eh? Make them look more upscale.

    McDouble 1
    Cheeseburger 1
    Pop 1

Next thing you know they'll be requiring a jacket and tie.

JBMcB speaks the truth. It was a case of being early to Big Beaver, and then having about 10 Italian restaurants open within a mile. They still do the Italian thing elswhere, but it seems the identity change was a good idea. Now they sell 1,000 burgers a week -- but they still serve the same 8-ounce Larco's filet mignon they've served since 1990.

I wonder if they're influenced by what happened with Cliff Bell's ...

I'm not sure Cliff Bells is a good comparison. The LCH was very much intact and was in relative serviceable condition. Cliff Bells was TRASHED. After changing hands, the last owner let the place fall into ruin. Paul Howard, owner, is to be credited for doing much of the renovation work himself. For those who haven't seen, check out these before-pics at this link, and then go to their website to see what it looks like now.
