Default Mayor Bing Notices Urban Farms!

I just heard a quote on WDET about the Lafayette garden space, where Mayor Bing said he notices all the gardens when he drives around city. He may not be as asleep as I previously thought. I still want to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe he will become our new Pingree. Did I just hear a chorus of angels sing?!

    Cheers!

Mayor Bing is still asleep in general, but he did endorse the concept of Detroit-style farming in this interview with John Gallagher of the Free Press:

..Has the Hantz farms project been given the green-light yet? I know some folks are against it, but I think there is room for some of the larger-scale projects as well as the smaller community-farm plots..

Detroit city schools can have dedicated plots of land, where students can work on them for credit, especially during the spring and summer. Several Detroit schools can emphasize earth-science curriculums, leading to career fields as forestry, agriculture, urban planning, botany, new energy, and more. Age-appropriate green-industry jobs training for high school students, college students and non-student adults can be a long-term boost to the local economy.
