the electric cars back then had better range than the volt, although their top speed was around 25.....

but you would think that after 100 years the technology would have been more improved...

Mrs Ford drove a Detroit Electric. She didn't trust the gasoline powered cars. Most likely she would need a range of at least 40 miles to get to and from Detroit or Soiree events in Indian Village to Fairlane safely.

I thought she drove a Ford modified to run electric? They've got it at the Henry Ford museum, I remember it has flower vases on the interior passenger compartment

Electric cars haven't advanced until very recently simply because, per pound, the energy density of even the most efficient battery is an order of magnitude worse than gasoline. Also much more expensive. As oil creeps up in price and battery technology becomes [[MUCH) more efficient, electric drive makes more sense.

Yes and we still have the problem of generating electricity with fossil fuels in most places.

Maybe mrs Ford found a way to sneak up on her Mr Ford's mistress' driveway noiselessly!

If I had the $$ to buy an electric car [[any vintage), I would definitely make sure my charging station [[or circuit switch) had the big hand-lever switch shown in the "1914 Electric Car Battery Charger"

looks like introduction of the Proton has been delayed. Here's some more recent articles:

I guess it won't even be necessary to be in Michigan to be from Detroit in the future.

There's an interesting link at the end of the second article - convert your car from gas to electric for only $37.00 plus less than $280.00 in parts.
