I can't believe that no one posted any comments... but maybe this should have been in Detroit issues...

Esther Gordy Edwards [[Barry Gordy's sister) was the woman who singlehandedly created the HITSVILLE USA - Motown Museum.

If it wasn't for her.... there would be NOTHING of Motown left in Detroit.

We owe her a great deal of gratitude for that... may she rest in peace.

I'm with you, Gistok. If it wasn't for her, there would be no museum honoring the great Detroit era of Motown. Berry Gordy could care less, so it took his sister to put together a museum. Back in the early days, it wasn't much to see. Everything was kind of ghetto in its presentation. Still, you could go into the studio and feel the creativity of what was once the "Snake Pit." To see it today, it hardly resembles what it was first like when she put it together.

I had the pleasure of meeting Esther in the late 80's and early 90's when I was working at WQBH. There was a large group of people all working together to establish a "Marvin Gaye Day" in Detroit. The first celebration was held in the lobby of the Fox [[1990?), and the second one was more of a show, hosted by Smokey. She was a very kind lady and truly cared about the memory of Motown.

Esther Gordy Edwards is a Motown legend. RIP.
