Default US cities may have to be bulldozed in order to survive

Detroit and Flint are mentioned in this article.

"Dozens of US cities may have entire neighbourhoods bulldozed as part of drastic "shrink to survive" proposals being considered by the Obama administration to tackle economic decline."

The image of "pruning an overgrown tree" is mentioned. At least that sounds more hopeful than "pruning a dying tree".

Didn't we try the "bulldoze, hope, and pray" strategy of redevelopment in the 1960s?

Anyone know if Adamo is a publicly-traded company? :-)

Shhhh. When all you have is a bulldozer, every neighborhood looks like an eyesore.

Of all the articles published on rightsizing in the past few years, this one was one of the worst. The Obama administration has never considered bulldozing "entire neighborhoods" in cities across the United States. What they wanted to do was replicate the landbank model pioneered in Flint. The landbank sells county-owned property in affluent areas and uses the profits to fund rehab or demolition of county-owned property in distressed areas. The Telegraph's spin on this is pure sensationalism.
