Default Detroit News: Woodward through the decades

The Detroit News posted over 100 great historical photos in an album on their website over the weekend of Woodward Avenue from the mid 1800s right through recent times. There are some FANTASTIC images in this album! I especially like the three or four which show the old traffic control towers from the teens and 1920s - such cool architecture for such diminutive structures. Check it out:

I like the older pictures. Then it devolves into sports crap, downtown boosterism and classic car stuff. Oh well...

Exactly what I was thinking. "See, once upon a time, you could do something on Woodward!"

The old photos really bring to life a moment frozen in time. Sure wish photography had been invented by 1700 so we could see Cadillac and his canoes at the foot of Woodward!!!

These two are the higlight for me. I can only imagine what life in Detroit was like at that time. The pace of change was just incredible.
