    Default steak house

when i was a wee lad, [[early 60s) my grandmother would take me on a bus down mich ave to a steak house. i still have a very vivid memory of the inside of the place but i cant remember the name.. it was set up like most diners, counter on one side, row of tables on the other. i remember it was on a corner cause we would sit and watch the cars go by. im sure someone here will remember it too.

Not likely the Flaming Embers as it didn't have a "diner" type counter. They had the line along the right side as you walked in off Woodward where you placed your steak order and saw the cook put it on the chargrill that was slanted low side toward the patron and high side against the wall. Depending on how you wanted to have your steak cooked determined where it was placed on the chargrill. In the 60's a steak, potato, drink, salad was $1.19!!

They sure sold the sizzle - those steaks all fat and they smelled great on the grill!

may be the flaming embers..the grill along the wall seems to be what i remember, not a sit down counter
