Default Dominating the Dutch news now; Stadium collapse in Enschede.

Enschede. The name might not be familiar to you. But then again 11 years ago this town was world news when a fireworks store blew up resulting in 23 deaths. [[Still shocking to me watching it back.) Today around noon local time the roof of a new section of seats of the Grosch Veste stadium collapsed suddenly.

    CNN reporting.

It fell right on that enormous seating area. Imagine if it had happened during a game. Ouch!

The fireworks incident happened on May 13, 2000. That date fell on a Saturday, not a Friday. I just had to check. That residential area seems way too close to the fireworks warehouse.

    Thanks for the videos!

If the structure had been completed, the likelihood of the roof falling would have been lower. During construction phase, not all of the structural elements are in place, and the contractor often relies on temporary shoring and rigging to accomplish the phased erection of steel. In short, the structure during construction phase isn't as stable as the finished product.

It'll take time to figure out the exact cause. I'm interested to hear what the engineers find.

Didnt a big beam fall at the old Yankee Stadium a few years back on an off day? can't imagine how bad that would have been had it happened in a game.
