Thread: Eataly Detroit?

    Default Eataly Detroit?

Eataly, the Italian food market, expanded to the U.S. last year with their location in New York. They have plans to expand to Washington and L.A. next [[http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0..._n_888894.html).

The original Eataly was started in Detroit's sister city, Turin, Italy. Could an Eataly Detroit be on the horizon? Would it be successful?

been to eataly in nyc - probably would not be as successful in detroit if on the same scale - too much wasted space on things that could be purchased elsewhere cheaper [[olive oils, chocolates, etc). However the fresh fish, pasta, etc. would be a hit. Regardless would love to see one in the area!!

Since all the Italians left Gratiot Ave. Detroit's "Little Italy" about 20 years ago, There are a few Italian owners in that area. Eataly is not making a proposal to come to City of Detroit to set up shop.

Givenchy was founded in France. A guy from France founded Detroit. Could Givenchy be on the horizon here? I think it would look good between that new Apple store and the Whole Foods outlet.

funny... I'm in Turin [[Torino) right now and had the best lunch at Eataly today. We were all saying if we had one of these in Detroit, we'd go out of our way to eat there... of course, it would probably be slightly different due to US health code regulations, but the concept is a great one, much more elaborate and less expensive than Papa Joes, etc.
