Can we save Detroit? Yes we can and this is how we do it:

1. Get rid the same old Coleman, Archer, Kilpatrick, employees in the City county building.

2. Fix our Detroit Police Dept.

3. Reconstruct Detroit Public Schools. Make it takeover by various corporations.

4. Fix our EMS vehicles.

5. Tear down abandon buildings.

6. Fix up vacant buildings.

7. Start urban community farming for urban praries.

8. Sweep out the drug dealers.

9. Fix our folks with mental issues.

10. Fix our folks with jobless issues.

11. Fix our folks with homeless issues.

12. Bring jobs to Detroit.

13. Develop exotic retail to Detroit ghettohoods.

14 Bring more ethnic culture to our ghettohoods.

WORD FROM THE STREET PROPHET

That's how we can fix Detroit for Neda's sake.

I order to do all of that you would have to spend millions of tax dollars to study different ways that it could be accomplished, that way it at least looks like something is being done.

Don't forget 15. Address CRIME!

But I suppose that would be less of an issue if other issues where addressed to some extent...........

Easier said than done.

1. Get rid the same old Coleman, Archer, Kilpatrick, employees in the City county building.
You can't just fire people for no reason. They will sue the city. You have to prove that they have done something that is so bad they deserve to be fired. A little something called due process.

2. Fix our Detroit Police Dept.
Any details? The city needs more police but how would they be paid for? Anything else? See my comments above.

3. Reconstruct Detroit Public Schools. Make it takeover by various corporations.
Are you trying to say that somehow the city should make corporations take over DPS? How?

4. Fix our EMS vehicles.
That sounds doable. Again it's a question of money and priorities.

5. Tear down abandon buildings.
Money, priorities, and due process.

6. Fix up vacant buildings.
Vacant buildings are usually abandoned. You probably mean buildings that can be salvaged. Assuming the city has money to do this, why would the city do that unless they could be guaranteed a buyer for the refurbished building? Usually that is done by the owner.

7. Start urban community farming for urban praries.
Gardening is already underway. Fullout farming may not be possible on brown fields.

8. Sweep out the drug dealers.
Due process: you have to prove they are drug dealers. Sometimes the drug dealers don't want to cooperate with their own arrest.

9. Fix our folks with mental issues.
This is certainly a question of lots of money. And some people may never get "fixed". Meanwhile, what do we do with them?

10. Fix our folks with jobless issues.
This is usually done by making the city safe and profitable for businesses. With the poverty level so high in Detroit, there isn't a lot of disposable income to sustain a lot of businesses. It's a vicious circle. We need jobs, but businesses need customers with money.

11. Fix our folks with homeless issues.
How? Money and priorities. Are you going to force people off the streets and into shelters?

12. Bring jobs to Detroit.
If it were that simple, it would have been done long ago. One thing businesses have said in the past: the SBT didn't keep them from coming to Michigan.
13. Develop exotic retail to Detroit ghettohoods.
You should make it clear what the subjects of your sentences are. Who should do this?

14 Bring more ethnic culture to our ghettohoods.
What does this mean? Street musicians on every corner?

So what does the article say? Anything that we don't already know? The teaser suggests the article is positive towards Detroit.

We've already spent hundreds of thousands benchmarking other cities. [[Archer) We've just never put that knowledge to actual use.
