You forgot to add don't forget your "E", stupid glow sticks, candy jewellery, backpacks and dance like an idiot.
Hopefully this year they don't need to go to #11 on the volume knob and place the speakers towrads Windsor. As if we want to hear this shit until 1:00am Monday evening. Turn them towards Detroit if it such an important event.

If they can't do any of the above [[or won't do it) I hope it fucking rains all weekend long.

    Jebus...so much anger!

This is great celebration celebrating a Detroit CREATION with tons of people from around the country and around the world coming in. I love this weekend.

Ditto canuck's comment. Even if techno isn't your idea of fun, can't we all enjoy something that Detroit does -- the festival -- which is an unqualified success? I hate counry music, but I think it's great the biggest country music fest in the region is the Hoedown.

I'll be there. My weekend pass has been on the fridge for a month or so. My friends and I have been going since it started - we're all pushing 30 now, which well beyond the median age of the crowd.

This will be the first year I'm going with a pair of these in my ears:

Gotta save what hearing I've got left [[been to a few too many concerts)...

I think they have realligned the beatport stage so it is not facing the river.

This is my first year not attending after the last nine. But the online stream will be nice.

LOL! I hear that. I'm not a fan of Techno or the crowd associated with it much but I am hoping all is safe, fun and that our neighborhoods and downtown businesses benefit from the extra people visiting our city.

I already got my weekend pass months ago. Can't wait to go down there. I'm definitely looking forward to a festival were it doesn't rain that much. I'll definitely will be riding my bike down there.

I've been to every techno festival since it's conception, and I'm definitely looking forward to this one.

Festivals are a wonderful time and great attractions for any city but this one ups the sound volume to ridiculous levels and then directs that sound across the water.

Dick...eeer I mean Warsaw7 I guess in my haste I made a typo. Your perfect self never makes those mistakes right?
bahhhh... durn kids... stay off my lawn too! Back in my day kids had respect for their elders. now its all baggy pants and that hippidy hoppity music all over the place.

seriously? its a music festival. consider 3 nights of bass one weekend in the [[almost) summer payback for having to look at that gawdawful casino monstrosity every day.

LOL! Now ya'll stop fighting [[smile)! We can't have NO international fuedin' on DYes!

Thank goodness I am midtown and hear nothing but the occasional gun fire, and sirens that is part of city life along with an once in a while pit bull barking!

Funny I stayed over at the "monstrosity" [[Caesars Casino) on what happened to the night of a Windsor rock band festival. Just my luck -- ick! Eventually it all ended around 1:40 AM or so...

It is what it is... [[live music sound) a few days out of our very, VERY short Michigan/ Ontario summers.

Problably $25.00 a day $50.00 for the weekend. It's not free!

Ticket prices are $35 for day and $70 for weekend. not sure what the convience charges are above and beyond these prices.

Besides them realigning the beatport stage, which I think they have done, by default you are going to hear the thudding anyway. You put enough bass bins in a concrete jungle they are going to bounce the sound around. Pointing the speakers to detroit would just push the sound right back to windsor I am sure. Kind of damn if you do damn if you don't.

Harmonie Park/Paradise Valley had a pretty awesome live show going on yesterday afternoon. They had a DJ booth set up and it was bumpin. I'm pretty sure it's going on all weekend and is entirely free.

Techno fest or Grand Prix = Same difference. You love it or you hate it or are indifferent to the sound/noise. But I would agree with those who will live and let live an event that people enjoy and congregate to. I dont feel the same about Technofest vs Devil's night though...

I think downtown is the perfect place for these events and more; not less of them are needed. I have the same opinion about similar stuff that happens in Montreal. Pumping up the volume for 3 nights in a row is OK! People who buy into the condo markets in the city center here around the Quartier des Arts [[Arts quarter) have to know what they are buying into. They get an aerial view and catch the vibe of Jazz and other festivals. The music festivals in Detroit are a definite magnet for non-Detroiters, so anything that hinders their progress is a nonstarter for me.

I would even venture to say that the city or state should make plans for attracting or retaining art troupes of different sizes, dance, film, music, other arts. The idea that tax rebates are the only incentives for attracting business to a major metro area is limiting at best. There could be ways of securing space for arts based companies with rent control features and connectivity with universities like Wayne State's theatre dept. The advantages of Detroit over other cities in terms of availability of space at a lower cost, the cultural environment, the wealthy metro is something the city leaders need to tap into. The city can attract a bunch of in or out-of-state dance troupes to set up in a given building with space for offices, studios and venue spaces. It could then do the same for other arts organizations by using underutilized buildings at secured rates. Midtown or downtown might generate interest on a global scale by adding support professionals for touring companies.
Multiply the effects by sorting out indy film and touring theatre companies in need of lower startup costs, provide well endowed spaces in buildings dedicated to their specific needs and this alone will help populate parts of town with a different sort of crowd. Why cant university theatre departments be more proactive in business development the way engineering or science are? No reason some students could not benefit from access to jobs in Detroit right out of school. The cost of exporting educated kids is expensive for Michigan.

Detroit is an internationally recognized brand name and not as negative as some people would have it. There is plenty of purr under the hood to turn the tide of ill-fortune on duh D. There are ways of turning Detroit into a magnet again on purely media-related terms; one is by having the buzz of Arts hit the taglines of news orgs and such, the same way automotive/sports/crime/blight tend to dominate when you search for things Detroit in an out-of-town paper.

    Adamjab,
The sound bouncing back would probably occur. I never thought about that.

Regardless, I re-read my first post and I certainly take back that I hope it rains [[I was not in a good mood at the time). But I still don't think they need the volume as high as it is especially with music where the bass is the dominate sound.

    Canuck,
The Grand Prix isn't nearly as bad with the sound but to have a constant low frequncy sound just drives me crazy [[especially when it lasts from apporx. noon until midnight or 1:00am). I have stayed in other cities when they have festivals and most aren't nearly as loud. But since I live downtown across open water the sound just travels where it seems the festival is across the street.

Oh well another year and one more festival will soon be over.

I've been every year, festival weekend is usually one of my favorite weekends. I was there for a bit Saturday, and the lines [[even for will-call) were redic!! Service charges on cash payments for tickets?? LAME. Sound? Not so great >.< [[isn't that what we're there for?)
I'm trying not to be bummed, and will probably check it out again tomorrow, but I've definitely enjoyed other year bookings better, and I seem to notice about a 60/40 negative opinion ratio on all the feedback I've heard. Of course, I haven't heard it all, and the weekend isn't over...

    Default Tech Fest vs Hoedown

I'll take the Tech Fest any day over the Hoedown. I went to the Hoedown on opening day about 4p and left by 8. Just got a bad vibe as the place started to pack em in I felt like a fight was about to break out. Really got a bad feeling when I saw a couple of morons wearing confederate flags as capes. I think because its a free event your going to get some less than stellar attendees.
Went to the DEMF Sat night and stayed from 5p till 1p and had a great time.
And by the way I'm 56
